Talking Regionally Who Are Best Fishermen?

A couple years ago there was a challenge tossed out on TV. We answered and the East West was born. When the smoke cleared, the east came out on top. Thats a no brainer. East coasters ARE far better than Westies...
Lets kick this debate up a notch. Our SFC ranks are loaded with guys from all over. Naturally in each groups back yard they are going to have an edge over those comming in say to fish a tournament. But which geographic group are the best. Is it the Jersey boys? Maybe your money rides on the Carolina crews? How about them sneaky south Florida ines? Is there a westie really fit to hold an Easties chum bag? Could the down under gang sneak up and teach us all? What about the central American contingency? We mustn't leave them out... Ok even the New england guys can play...

I don't want just which group you think. I want why you think its so... Think of a hypothetical tournament in the middle of the Indian Ocean with some marlin, some near shore and some inshore species to be targeted on different days running. Where whould you want your team to hail from and why?

Theres no reason why every one of our 15,000 members can't answer... unless of course you are scared ... If thats the case you should be curled up on a pillow with a saucer of milk... Get on here and lets hear what you got to say!

    Thumbs up

Fisherman from the northeast (Mass south to OC) hands-down. The fishing is so diverse in this region and you really need to understand the habits of so many different species and know the various techniques to be consistently successful. From snapper blues at the dock to 1000LB bluefin in the Mudhole to grander blue marlin in 1000 fathoms, you learn it all growing up in the NE. My fondest memories come from there along with most of the scars on my hands.

I would personly like to nominate YOU, the master of all things wet, Deep C as the greatest fisherman in every region of the world.

On a more serious note I would have to say the Carolina boys are the best day in and day out.

deep i was thinking about that same general question today.

I think the Carolina guys would be hard to beat. These guys get to fish for many different types of fish and fish under all different situations. There is something here year round to fish for. We get the blue fins winter yellowfins basically year around marlin and dolphin summers and a wahoo is possible almost anytime. These guys have to be able to adapt majorly from day to day. One day they may be marlin hunting the next bailing dolphin and the day after chasing big yellowfin or hell they may be doing it all in the same day. Also, a lot of the carolina fleet can date their knowledge back to the pioneers of deep sea fishing. Some of these guys have learned from Sam and Omie Tillet, Sheldon Midgett and such.

I have to agree that the NE fisherman are the best! Anyone can fish when it is nice and warm and the water is all blue and pretty, yeah it's fun to fish down south! I go there for vacation! Here you have to be ready for anything, weather that can change at the drop of a hat and snotty seas a matter of course. We put up with it because it is the best fishing in the world, we have whole cities that were founded on it!

Hmmm.... A couple votes Carolina... Its a start... I'm as yet undecided. I mean those guys catch fish but is iit because they are good or is it because the waters there are fertile with a wide diversity of life running most of the year?

A couple votes north east,,, Is that because they are good or is it because season is so short they really turn up the heat for such a short run?

We need a whole lot more opinions and reasons to make a qualified statement though...

Because they catch so many fish and can perfect anything like circle hook fishing and pitch baiting.

But wouldn't they lose points because the pacific fish are so retarded you could catch them on a jigged cue ball?

Here in the NE when the weather picks up we can run into many places/ports.
On the west coast where can they run into? Ports are few and far in bewteen?
Not that we have very good sea conditions in the NE.
    How 'bout it left coasters??
