Local knowlege and fishermen where ever you fish in the world, are the best in any reigon. You can't compare anything else. Someone may be the best in MD but not the best in the Bahamas or Florida or vice versa.

Otherwise its apples to oranges. Carolina boys rock because they have the fishery and do it simply by posting the #'s. The Cape Codders and North Easters catch more giants and the Fla boys catch the most sails and swords. ETC ....

See... Thats what we're trying to work out in this thread. I started by saying regionally each group is going to do best in their back yard. Then I asked if the carolina boys are gettng the nod because they have a pile of all kinds of fish to play with in that same back yard.
The Florida boys get 12 months of sails and swords to play with. The Stellwagen crews get the tubby ones to play with. Thats not really the question. I'm seeing glimmers of response refering to Northeast guys. I questioned if it was because of the short season and a gung ho attitude . Then replies started to hint at what I'm hoping to un earth.
Regionally you need to be up on all the local types of fishing. Lets use the north for example. To be good in say north Jersey. You need to have game for fluke, blues, bass, mako, and then all the off shore goodies. In Florida yes a lot is sail and sword but to be well rounded you need to have game with snook, tarpon, shark, grouper, kings, dolphin etc.
So which area has the guys that adapt the best to the widest variety of fishing styles?

using those parameters, again you have to go back to carolina, with the exception of maybe a cod, which of those fish haven't slip, or biscuit or lee come back with. and im not real sure on the cod either.

No no no no... Not most species... Most styles. If you want species you head to the bahamas and in four styles you could rack up 30 or more species... Timmy you must focus!

Although i've never fished there, I'd have to agree the Carolina Boys are the best I ever heard of. I know plenty of guys that have fished there and upon return back to OC they brag about the Capt's the mates and the whole experience despite all their years experience from right here in OCMD.
Archie and his brother (which again I've never met) have to be one of the top captain out of Oregon Inlet and hands down one of the best fishermen on the East Coast.

It would have to be Florida if you are refererring to most species and the people who catch all of them. You have the entire assortment of bottom fish including tiles etc, all the inshore fish like snook, tarpon, ladyfish, flounder, bluefish etc.. and then every and all species of offshore pelagics. I don't think this is a debate, regionally and geographically FLA has the widest variety of saltwater fish. Think about the whole ecosystem down there, from sandy bottom, to mud, to coral reefs coupled with true gulfstream water just about on the beach.

Penned baits that have been fed and conditioned... boats that are converted so all the boxes are wells and they can carry 200-500 baits... Seasoned anglers who can do it right.... That stuff is hard to beat.
What I have to hope for is that the sails are off the gogs and targeting hoos on the feed. If thats the case I'll do ok. I'll have gogs but not like theirs. If thats the hot ticket bait its gonna be a long theree days...

As for the debate... I still see names being tossed... I still see regions being selected.I'd some more "why you think what you think"... weighed and balanced points... You know a good ol fashioned street fight!
    Goggle Eyes and sailfish

I have seen what they do, how they keep their baits, how they feed their baits and have even caught baits for them. Their crews are top notch

I am sure that you will hold your own and knock them dead!

Hope to see you down at a few of them.

As for who is the best I can't answer that and nor do I really care. Most are all better than me and I look to all for info and knowledge.

Their are a lot of great and legendary names being pitched out.

    Very cool thread!

Indeed we have a bunch of species and the directions and ways we have to go are very diversified. Not the species but the various types of rigging and approach the Florida gang have to use puts them in the running. If it was just species count I can think of a patch reef or two over in the islands that you could sit on for a couple hours, never move, never change rigs and pick off close to twenty five species and a quick troll could yield several more.
Then you have other species that you need to be adept at sevral styles just for that one specie. Think of a striper for example. To be good, you need to know river, bay, beach, ocean and several styles in each of those places. Jigging, trolling, live baiting, chunking, plugging, etc.
So for me I would have to give the guys where they target them a lot of points just on that.
I'm starting to form an opinion but need more input to jog factors out of the cobwebs in the back of my head. Keep em comming.
