    reels

I have just ordered 6 New White Marlin/ sail fish rods and I wanted to know if anyone is using Avet LX6. I currently have TLD 25's and one Tyrnos30. I like the gear ratio of the LX6 and the line Capacity as well as the weight. but I have not heard of anything pro or con on Avets. Any coments

Excellent reels. I use them for all my kingfish setups. As long as you are not planning on goosing the drags (they bind a little bit if you top out the drag) they are the best reel for the money and easy to work on.

I used the Avetts once on a charter in FL. The high gear ratio comes in handy when a fish greyhounds towards the boat or the captain puts a move on him. As far as durability , I wouldn't know.

But the durability and smooth freespool of the TLDs can't be beat.

    Go with SHIMANO

Go with TLD's or Tyrnos. Look at all the top White Marlin boats, no avet there!

I've got Avet LXs on my king rigs as well, and they are stout reels. I will say that if I had big $$$ on the line in tournament fishing, I'd go with the TLDs - For 1 reason - the drag ramp
on the Avets is very small (at least mine) - you go from full freespool to locked down hard in just a click or 2...

My reels are about 6 years old and were some of the first available, so that may have changed - if so, Peace. If not then
the TLDs will give you smoother, more predictable drags...

We don't monkey with the drags much for kings - Light drags, small hooks, so it is not an issue there. A white in a tournament situation is a whole different matter.

The new Avets are leaps and bounds from the older ones. I own both. You cant go wrong with a TLD either. Both good choices if you ask me. The Avet is definitely sexier though

I thought by the post title he was looking more for experiences with AVET reels....not every other post to say, should have bought a TLD... Just my two cents though.

Anyway, i have an Avet HX and i think they are great reels, durable finish, easy to adjust and dial in, and great drag numbers on even their smallest reels. Good luck with them, what color anodizing did you go with? Lets just say i would reach for the HX just as confidently as i would one of my penns or shimanos.

I'd recommend the TLD or Tyrnos over the Avet. The reason is that those reels fish light line better as they have a smoother drag curve (doesn't ramp up as quick). Avets are great reels but I wouldn't use them in this application.

Thanks all I am looking into the TLD's. I am going to look into after market handles so the ratio will be greater.( does anyone know where to get them) The Avets look like they would make a good tuna chunking set up. A snooth drag is very inportant when targeting white and sails and my mate also said the Avets drag is not as smooth.
