RED EYES VS BLACK EYES?

I am going to choose my words here very carefully..

Since most lures have either Black Pupils or Red Pupils, or a combination of the two with other colors as highlights, for the most part it is the dominant color of the eye on a lure...just curious as to preference if any..

Certainly, there are other colors out there, not to slight those in any way shape or form whatsoever.

I have nowhere near the experience to answer that so I picked my girlfriend's(read wife's) eyes!

When I buy a lure its the shape of the head and the contrast that influence my decision. So black/silver or black is my short answer to your question.
After I put it in the water, its the lure's action behind my boat that makes me buy more.

Isider, yep your right on, didn't want to go to the head shape since that becomes a huge subject, but I agree with you.

Having owned and operated a pet shop that specialized in fish for roughly five years I got to see a lot of fish die in a variety of manners. The year I sold the shop I was maintaining fifty freshwater and twenty saltwater tanks of various size plus offered a maintenance service for offices and such.

During this time I developed a great relationship with the marine biologists at Aquarium Pharmaceuticals. These guys were a great resource and explained a lot of stuff to me that I would have never thought of on my own.

One thing I remember asking about was why when a fish is weak and obviously on its last leg do the other fish in the tank rip its eyes out. It was explained to me that it was simply herd, or in this case, school mentality. Get rid of the weak.

So, bearing this in mind, I figure that if you were running a lure that mimics healthy forage then a natural eye, black, would be best. And if you’re running a lure that is erratic in its behavior and appears wounded then you may want to consider a red eye.

It is my sincere hope that I have managed to entangle the entire eye controversy.

Thats great!, but then i always have had a wrapped sense of humor...


I can't help but think of all the footage i've seen of how fast these fish stike and pics of marlin caught on coke bottles and rubber chickens etc. to remember the old phrase that most lures are designed to catch fisherman not fish....and on that note sign me up for a black and gold one

CG...as a member of the mostly unrecognized and routinely ignored minority I take the utmost offense at this thread and refuse to contribute to your silly poll. Obviously you and the rest of the "color see'ers" on this site have no sympathy or regard for those of us that suffer color blindness. Yes, we know who you are...you stare and laugh under your breath as we walk by with our mix-matched socks...you scoff when we ask Mark Ray for more pencil sketches and you mock our favorite blue sweatshirt because you know its really PINK!! Yes you CG with all your fancy pant lures in hundreds if not thousands of color combinations that I unlike you will never be able to fully appreciate!! You sir will be hearing from my lawyer as soon as I find his number...I think he wrote it on green paper with a red pen.
