The Green Machine and Cedar Plug have probably caught more fish then any other lures in the world. Why don't they have eyes on them?

I'm gonna have to agree.........I don't think the presence/lack of eyes makes a whole lot of difference, much less the eye color.

It seems we have gotten stuck on this eye thing like its the only thing that matters.

In my opinion, the following list of priorities is what I try to meet with the lures and spread behind my boat (listed in order of descenting priority):

    1. Lure action. I do not like a lazy lure. I do like a nice long bubble trail.
    2. Color contrast. Try also to match the prevalent forage at the time. Place darker colors in the froth, lighter colors in clean water.
    3. Lure size. Try also to match the size of the prevalent forage.
    4. Lure placement (where in the pattern and where on the wave). Also keep larger/longer lures closer to the boat, smaller lures further out.
    5. I do not like trolling on a continous straight line. I like doing long S's until I find my first bite.
    6. When I get a bite I gun the boat and flip the autopilot hard over
    7. When I see "window shoppers" on my spread I try to do something different. Gun the boat, turn the boat, slow down let line, etc; anything I can to connect to a bite.

(I type these as I go so dont jump on me if #3 should be #5 or vice versa)

After I do all these things then I look for details like eyes or no eyes? I dont care how many eyes the lure has or does not have, if you dont swim it right most probably is not going to be a consistent producer.

A question raised earlier asked " The Green Machine and Cedar Plug have probably caught more fish then any other lures in the world. Why don't they have eyes on them?"
Well, how many boats in your marina carry the Black Bart Pelagic Breakfast or 1656 or the Pakula Cockroach or Mouse? I would venture to say a very small percentage to the ones carrying Green Machines and Cedar Plugs. My grandfather used to catch tuna trolling seagull feathers on handlines as did most of his friends at the time. Its what lure people use the most.

What makes it interesting to me is the attention to detail and hopefully stumbling onto something that could make a difference. So I am of the opinion of continuing to apply them for as long as I dont lose sight of the big picture.

    Sorry for the long post.
