The next bite on a jig.

    Recreational Bluefin

This will probably be a controversial statement, because many feel they have some sort of ownership of the bluefin population, but if you are a recreational fisherman, now is a great time to go pull on one. Give it about a week of not being pounded by commercial boats and they will be on fire out there, if you can find them.

Use the right tackle and be safe.

I've been waiting to do just that. Fun fishing during the commercial season is OK, but skims some of the fun off of it. Now I need to find time to get down, and a little nice weather.

Come on now, you know listening to VHF has some entertainment value.

I can't tell you how good it feels to have the commercial monkey off my back. I can make posts like this.

I'm ready to go hurt Mr. Wahoo's feelings.

Right on Jim! I miss the 2-6 day winter commercial fish season just for that fact. My wife & I used to fish for a week or more before and after the season opened and closed & enjoyed some of the best fishing for GBFT I've ever experienced. You can sure tell what all boat pressure during the commercial season does to these fish, especially in such shallow waters as we target them in.

The third week of December used to be world class rod bending action, with 10 -12 boats maybe.
