    re-rigging the riggers

It's time to re rig the riggers, 41 rupps. I want to get away from Bungee shock cords due to the limited life span. I like the setup going through the covering boards and using clam cleats but dont think this applicatin will work due to molded in steps in the gunwale. What has been your experience with using braided line or heavy mono in place of shock cords?

    Thanks for the help!

Wahoonbox did a really great video on rigging your outriggers - well worth the time and may resolve your issue with bungees... http://www.sportfishermen.com/board/...69/rigger.html

If the riggers are mounted correctly, the main rigger pole and the back tube form a triangle with the side of the boat where the rigger is mounted. When you lay out the rigger, the geometry of the triangle should not change.

If that is the case, you do not need bungee at all. We simply use a small stainless strap screwed to the covering board.
1/8" braided nylon cord runs from the pulley to the strap. It does not ned adjustment all season. Simple and it works.

I run 600 lb. colored mono (red, green, blue) to distinguish which halyard is which. I then run triple Hal-Locks with the bungee. I snipped off the plastic clips on the bottom. I run 1/4" nylon rope spliced to the bottom ring of the Hal-Locks. Then it goes to a jam cleat on the gunnel. I like this setup. It allows me to adjust the tension of the halyards.
