Alright this has been a great informative thread but one thing I failed to see is the connection of the wire leader to the spro. Do you simply use a haywire twist? Then how do you connect the mainline to the spro?

That's all I do. Haywire to spro, and usually a uni to spro or if there's a twist, a cats paw.

As a side note, I will keep a couple of wire rigs at the ready on the spros so after a fish is caught, cut the mainline and retie a fresh rig on. I don't like to reuse a wire after more than one or two fish, especially if they have any size.

I am setting up my planer rod next weekend and i am getting my 80 out and ready to spool..

if i have this correctly i am going to start by spooling my reel up with 130lb jerry brown spectra hollow which is my line of choice..

then i am going to spool that up and then i am going to use a cats paw or to my 130lb spro swivel..

attach my 31" bridle to the end of that line and they i will splice in my 130lb mono leader to that and add about 132 ft of 130lb mono to that end.. then i will add 24" of #6 piano wire via a haywire to my spro on the end of my 130 mono to my hook with my lure on it with a needle eye super sharp (Per marty) hook..

and then just hang on and slam the wahooskis.. lol

I found a couple of these in a discount bin at a local shop here a few years back. They were unweighted so I decided to run the purple and silver in the mouse-trap rigged with a ballyhoo to try and fool a big mahi. Couldn't keep the dang fish off it. Caught it all, tuners, dolphin and wahoo. Even had a shot at a couple of pointy fish but lost them due to googans. Had four of them but lost them all.None in the black and red though. These lures KILL FISH.

Yes we run a select ballyhoo under them. They have a 3 oz. head underneath the octopus dkirt that has a cavity inside the head so that the ballyhoo's bill will slide up inside on the head and lock in place.
