Ive looked at several websites, Scopinch being one of them, and it is being advertised as IGFA legal.

    http://www.meltontackle.com/products...e-station.html
    http://www.scopinich.com/Battle_Station.html

But I think the question was, IS it legal in a tournement... that would be up to the judges.

For those of you that have never fished with one, the cross pin(where the rod would "rest") is actually pretty far forward and is out of reach(for resting the rod) for most people.

Yeah, I mean you could rest the rod take your hands off the handle, drink a coke and smoke a Marlboro, then resume the fight when you got your second wind. But you can do that with a really good standup harness or a chair and bucket seat.

Going back a zillion moons to my days at Murray Bros, Ed murry came up with basically that design of a thing. Then President of IGFA Mike leach said not legal. More of a rodholder than a gimbal was how I understood his case to be...

You can use them in an IGFA tourney as long as you abide by the rules, ie: the roller has to come out and at NO time can the rod touch\rest on the lower cross arm. It is no differant than a chair and a harness. The harness can not be tied off to the chair for tourneys. You can use a shoulder harness just like with a chair so the gimbal in the post is no differant then the gimbal in a chair. If I was going to use one in a tourney I would make damn sure that the rule commitee viewed it and gave you their call in writting. Capt. Eric

If your going to use that I would always check with who ever is running the tourney. Get a solid answer before you use it. Alot of tournaments state IGFA rules only then say all decisions are up to the officials.

I contacted the IGFA and this is the response I got from someone after five days.

Samson posts and other such stanchion mounted gimbles are legal as long as the gimbal is completely free swinging. If there is a pin or other such device that restricts the movement of the gimbal it becomes illegal.

So I guess it's up to the tourney commitee. GET IT IN WRITING!
