Zummie,
Thank you for your order. And don't worry about asking a lot of questions. Over two decades of work has gone into SuperBars and we are very proud of the results. Plus we are constantly striving to improve them in all ways. They are very different than conventional bars and we are happy to answer any questions except for ones on proprietary issues about them.
While very popular in many other venues, SuperBars are still new to some on the East Coast and so we are more than happy to point out the differences to anyone who asks. And in your home state and the one that I was born in, Florida, spreaderbars in general developed a negative reputation because many were the heavier, hard-pulling style that northeastern canyon fishermen were used to.
As it once was in on the West Coast - and absolutely is no more there - heavy, hard-pulling bars simple overpowered the lighter tackle that fishermen in Florida and on the other coast prefer to fish with. The West Coast fishermen discovered the big difference only a few years ago and now SuperBars are very popular there. In fact, they won two of the three big tuna tournaments out there last year. Happily for us, as more and more Sunshine Staters have begun using SuperBars, they too are discovering that they can easily be fished on their kind of tackle too, including spinning gear and in turn, learning the awesome power of multiple lure fishing.
One of the good things about SuperBars is the fact that even though they are very light and easy to troll and can be fished on very light tackle, they can also be easily fished on the heaviest gear too. We absolutely guarantee that the SuperBar itself will never break.
Another reason that we don't mind, and in fact, welcome questions is that we firmly believe, to modify an old TV commercial, with a slight twist, that "an educated fisherman is our best customer". And the plain facts are that we not only sell the very best products we can find or make, unlike anyone else in the business, we teach you how to use them, plus a lot of other important factors in a broad range of big game fishing categories.
Happily for us, many of our customers have become and more and more are becoming good, long term friends. And in fact, some of them have been big helps to us with suggestions and ideas. A perfect example is the Spider that we are discussing here. I'd love to say that we came up with the idea of them being both a good, lightweight dredge and a very good surface spreaderbar all in one, but it simply wouldn't be true. Actually, a customer of ours named Mark (I forget his last name at the moment, but he receives credit for what he did in The Super Bar Book for what he did) came up with the knowledge of the spreaderbar side of Spiders.
Early-on he ordered some and on his first trip out with them he slaughtered a pile of big, longfin albacore on them. He sent us an email about it and included a picture of the Spider running up top. One of my guys (who is no longer with us) was looking at the photo with me. He was laughing and saying, "Look at what this idiot was doing...he doesn't even know to run a trolling weight on a dredge, ha-ha-ha!" I said, "Idiot? Look at how that thing is running and look how many fish he caught on it! He's no idiot, he's a friggin' genius! And I know exactly what to call the next generation of the Spider!" He said "what?" And that is how the RuckusRaiser was born - thanks a customer, not me or us.
We cherish our customers; not just because they buy stuff from us, but because of good things like this. And we don't just sell stuff, we have books that teach them how to use those products, along with many other tips and instructions on just about any kind of big game fishing that exists. And I do my best to pass on much of that kind of information here. As far as I know, we are the only company in the business to do that, especially the book thing.
Remember, "Knowledge is the key to success and books are the best, fastest way to gain it. That way you can learn it one day, and be using it the next."
Along those lines, a complimentary copy of The SuperBar Bible will be on its way to you next week...that will give you enough time to read, listen to (don't forget, our books will actually read themselves out loud to you!) and digest the Marlin Book before you get the new one.
Okay, Zummie, thank you again for doing business with us and for your insightful questions. And good luck!
