back when i was pier fishing i never used a topshot and never had a problem. The only time I saw one necessary was when by buddy Bryan caught an est. 150lb tarpon off Apache in myrtle beach. April is early for kings but there might be a few around. Trout in the morning and evening will be your best bet.
