    Question

I have a small Mako 25' CC. I try to keep it as simple as possible when tuna fishing. I will, a lot of times, run a 48 oz trolling sinker just to get the bait down. I have had some luck with the sinker. I was just wondering what would get the bait down deeper; a 48 oz trolling sinker or a #3 planar both trolled at 5.5 knots?

I have run a #24 planar off the cleat. I know this technique gets me down the deepest. I run the boat and set the spread, and am trying to keep it as easy on my self as possible.

Im going to say the trolling sinker. I personaly use a down rigger when tuna fishing for blue fins in the northeast. I like the down rigger ball cause if I mark fish or bait down deep can pull the boat out of gear and as the boat slows the bait sinks deeper. Usually as soon as the boat goes back into gear you get your strike. We are usually fishing 400 feet behind the boat to do this.
