Well it’s been a very long summer with very little fishing for me. The phone rang the other day and it was Trey from Over Under Adventures and he asked if I could help him and Joe on a overnighter. Since I opened this site I have been working with Trey and jumped on the chance to fish with those guys again.
So I got to the boat around 12 pm and helped Joe and Trey get the boat ready and rolled out the Inlet. Passed John Seafood on the way out but he looked to be asleep J
Ran out on to the canyons on the Low Profile witch is a 2000 55 ’ Gwaltney Custom Carolina Sportfish. Just to let you all know this boat is very cool has a cockpit that is massive and tons of room inside to spread out.
Ok back to the trip, got to the canyons and dropped the hooked and starting chunking.
With in about a hour we had our first fish on during the fight we had another on and lost one caught one. Now I have to say this about Joe and Trey, never have I been on a charter boat that the Capt and Mate work so damn hard to help the anglers land fish. Joe and Trey would see a fish heading for the anchor and run the rod to the bow of the boat work the fish under the anchor line and give the rod back to the angler. On one fish Trey called me to the bow and said hold the line while I attempt to pull the boat towards the anchor. I sorta looked at Trey as if he was nuts but I did my job. Trey pulled and pulled and pulled anchor line till the line was up high enough to see the wrap the fish did to the anchor line. Immediately Trey said to the right and under then over again and bam the fish was free and the angler was back to fighting his fish. The whole night we had fish on here and there and then day break brought on yellow fin and long fin in full force.
Next thing I see Under the port rigger is a really really nice white marlin come up out of the water under the rigger and start going nuts. As Im watching that I realize he is hooked up and Next thing I know 3 more tuna are on at the same time. We released the white in short time and kept working on the tuna.
We worked hard and put a good amount of meat in the box. Leaders we used were 30lb leaders so our ratio of landings was down but the bites were on.
I would like to thank Trey and Joe for having me out and allowing me to work on the Low Profile. I have said this for years and will still continue to say this. If you get the chance book a trip with Trey and Joe http://overundercharters.com as these guys give first class trips on a first class rig.
Thanks again for the time on the water witch was needed big time.
Capt John Eppehimer
