    Puerta vallarta question

I am getting married in June, and one of the honeymoon destinations we are looking at is PV. I want to know if big tuna and marlin are consistently caught during this time of the year or should I not get my hopes up? Reading all of capt Josh's posts has made me want to come and tangle with 200+lb tuna and big marlin. Thanks in advance fot the info,
    Maclin

The run for big fish is from August to December although you may have a shot. there are many guys that fish down there and really know there stuff. I may be mistaken.

    Maclin,
PV is my home away from home and I run in JT's crew. June is the start of Marlin season however it is a tad early for the Cow tuna (although there are a few caught that time of year). But there will be a lot of Dorado around and 40 - 100lb tuna available on the porpoise. Some of the best top water action takes place in the early season offshore for Tuna and Dorado. Throw in a chance at 400 - 600lb Blues and Blacks.........I'd say that PV is a great wedding destination in June. Can also do the inshore thing one day for Roosters, Sailfish, peanut dorado, snappers, etc. Good luck where-ever you decide.

Thanks for the help and info. Ok so if I went marlin fishing for one day about how much would that set me back with a reputable captain that will give me a legit shot at marlin and whatever other species that will be around. I would love to charter JT, but I don't think that is in the budget to add to a honeymoon.
    Thanks,
    Maclin

I'm no expert on the area but there are numerous decent captains down there...some might even fit your budget.
If you want the websites to a few...Lilharcher or myself could send you a few...

I highly recommend JT for billfish that time of year but if he is not in your budget, others include (all are around $1,100 for full day):
    1) Capt. Danny Osuna - Marla Sportfishing - 32' Blackfin
    2) Capt Juan Moll - Top Gun Sportfishing (or Mr. Marlin Sportfishing) - 33' Bertram
    3) Capt. Manny O - Pacifico Sportfishing - 33' Blackfin
    4) Capt Kurt Esperanza - Esperanza Sportfishing - 25' Grady White

You can google search for contact info or contact me via PM and can give you all info.

All good scoop on PV. It's a great fishing venue, even when that giant yellowfins aren't in town. The usual commentary about it is slanted, and understandably so, due to its popularity as one of the best, and maybe the best big yellowfin tuna destinations on the planet at times. Some PV fans regard blue, black and striped marlin and sailfish, dorado, and school tuna as "by-catch", but to many visiting "just anglers", these fish are a ball to catch and are plentiful much of the year. I'm guessing that you and your bride might really like getting into a bunch of those "by-catch" species and as L'l, who is indeed a pro on PV noted, a gut-wrenching cow tuna is possible at the time that you are going.

JT is an awesome captain who drives an incredible machine, but if he isn't in the budget, the other boats listed are all top flight fishermen and vessels. I'm sure that you'll find one that fills the budget for you and I know that they will do a great job for you.

    Have a great trip!

Thanks for the help. I think that I will only be able to probably do a 1/2 day trip, but I cannot pass up the opportunity like this. Who knows when I will ever be able to get back down there. I have fished offshore since I was old enough to go, but have never caught a marlin or tuna. Now plenty of tuna have been caught on my boat, but I always drive and let my guests fish. Anyway, I have to take advantage of the opportunity while I can.

    Capt. Josh,
If you see this post please let me know what your rates are. After reading your posts and seeing pictures from trips, I really want to get on board and experience it first hand.
    Thanks,
    Maclin

Kurt isnt 1100, you might be able to get him for less. Lora can be had on a panga, for probably around 800 or so for a full day, and its a nice ride and he was well trained by JT.

Juan Manny and Danny are all great but if 1100 is out of your range, you will have to stick to Kurt or Lora. Also Danny of dhamarsportfishing has received good reviews, as well as Chuy, and Popa who all run pangas, Danny out of la cruz and the last two out of Mita.

JT by far has the nicest set up but if you cannot afford $1100 you will not be able to fish with him either. But the guys mentioned above should give you a great chance at the big marlin.

As the guys said, dont hold your breath for big tuna in June, but anything can happen. But over the last 5 years, the bite has been declining pretty consistently on the big cows. But it is still the best damn place to go fishing.
