First let me say I do not want to take away from all the professional fisherman on the board. For those that do not know what a Sancocho is, it is the horrible even when you are dropping back to a Billfish and you think you have him hooked and to your disappointment you only come back with a head. And as stated before this is my way, not the only way. But I think I have figured a way to avoid the dreaded Sancocho. And to think I had to travel all the way to china to understand how to do it. Please follow along.
First you must begin with the proper bait selection. Clear eyes, nice beak, good bait color.
Secondly you must take great care in the preparation to make sure you don't break the skin. You do not want to leave and improper markings on your ballyhoo.
This is very important. You must always make sure that your bait is not weeded up. Bites will be hard to come by if you ignore this.
A proper free spooll dropback in imparative to avoid anything feeling the bait. Something could get scared off quite quickly if it feels any tension at all.
Always make sure to have a back up bait in case you hit find yourself with the dreaded Sancocho.
