It is because Shimano bought out Powerpro and has reformulated the new lines so they are clearing out the old stuff. that being said you couldn't give me any because of all the problems I have had with PP and jigging.

I have been using the 80# red pp for about three years now and have not had any problems, yet.

I use it during the winter for trolling my heavy Striper rigs and deep drop with it the rest of the year. I just bought a new 1500 yd. spool back in Dec. to top shot my reels with, so far so good.

The only thing I don't like about it is the red dye comes off, I use the white or high vise yellow...

Red 50# PP has snapped on the troll twice for no apparent reason. I don't recommend it.

Green and yellow 80# PP have worked fine for me.

FYI.....ON ANOTHER NOTE....RED DYE IS THE MOST EXPENSIVE DYE IN ANY PRODUCT AND RED DYE ALWAYS FEATURES MORE PROBLEMS THAN ANY OTHER COLOR IN THE MANUFACTURING SCHEME OF THINGS....NO MATTER WHAT THE PRODUCT....FADING, BREAKING, ETC

I don't think red had anything to do with it. I have had problems with everyline from 50# to 100# and in green red and yellow. So that theory won't hold water. It is also such a widespread problem that it was put as a sticky on 2 of the jigging forums I am on, so I believe it was more of a problem than most want to believe or think.

It has done me well Marty,
maybe I have been lucky but I don't have anything bad to say about it.
As I said, we usually just top shot the reels as it gets cut back for one reason or another. Mainly due to tangles but we are usualy running six rods with tandem rigs on them along with two umbrella rigs and when they all bend over with 30 pound Rock on them you do tend to get a cluster, do ya read me ???
Anyway, I have also used the hi vis yellow for a number of years, mainly in the 50 pound for my spinning outfits we use for Trigger fishing and for my Cobia and Drum rods which really take a beating.

I hope there isn't a pattern starting to develop here with the purchase of the company but that is usually when you see the quality starting to go down hill.

Hopefully others will post their findings, I'd like to hear about them. Might be time to start looking for plan "B".

With all the choices available in spectra lines, why take a chance with PP? Seems like some combination of poor quality control and/or subpar material of construction. Who cares? I'm not buying any more.
