I have a friend spool all my reels with a line spooling machine and he uses a lot of pressure and gloves to boot. Like I said JB and Tuf-Line never give me problems, so it is no the method of installation. PP was the cheapest made and most advertised braid on the market. Fantastic marketing strategy for sure, just garbage in my opinion.
is it just coincidence that I've only seen complaints about PP and not the others? or could it be that the cheap price attracts the thumbdingered?
Historically I have always used PP. I have problems with wind knots as well as mystery breakage. I have 4 new Spheros 18000s to use for charters and I am going to spool up with Diawa Boat this time for the first time.
I ain't sayin there's never been a bad batch....just sayin there has been a whole bunch of kooks using it wrong and jumping on the I got a bad batch bandwagon.
If you run it across or between leather to compact your spool.....you are an asshat of the first order. Create tension on the bulk spool not the line. I guess an elitist "I don't fish the cheap stuff" guy would never be capable of lowering themselves to my level and understanding this theory. Friction and heat + fishing line = BAD
Maybe the superior braids such as JB or Diawa(yep, I agree they are superior) can handle the leather glove friction trick and be no worse for the wear. GREAT! That's probably why I have JB on my offshore reels....hmmmm....
All that said....why not use an inexpensive option IF it works? If you can't catch inshore species on power pro and have to buy the expensive braids to do so.....guess what.....YOUR A KOOK!EDITED BY ELECTRONICS GURU

trust me i am not an elitist, I am a realist. I tried PP and it failed me at least a dozen times in 3 different sizes and colors to boot. I also have a great cheap option and that is Tuf-Line XP. Blows PP out of the water. the glove the guy uses is not leather either it is a kevlar glove like the fillet kind that you can't cut thru. I prefer ande back country 8# for inshore, so I guess I must be a real kook huh?
I'd hate it too if I had that kind of trouble....
Ande backcountry(blue) 6, 8, 10 # are always in my boat. I wouldn't trade it for all the power pro in China Trout fishing.
Serious question though....WHY RUN THE BRAID(regardless of brand) over anything to get tension? Why not use your glove to offer resistance against the spool of line....or....just do as I suggested....dump it behind the boat and let the reel pack itself?
I guess I should also say....I've never used red and won't....for no other reason than....it's red.![]()
