press release day 1

For Immediate Release August 22, 2005 Wow! What a start! Two tournament records set before the first fish was weighed in. A record field of 168 boats has gathered between the Canyon Club Resort Marina in Cape May, New Jersey and Sunset Marina in Ocean City, Maryland to battle for a tournament record purse of nearly $1.7 million in the 2005 Mid-Atlantic $500,000! A mild west wind created superb conditions offshore for the 160 boats that chose to fish on Day One of sportfishing’s “Main Event” and most encountered good fishing on “The Rip.” In the white marlin category, Craig Ziegler’s Box Lunch jumped to the lead after weighing a white marlin of 64 pounds. Second and third place are vacant. All three places in the blue marlin category are vacant. Phillip Infantolino’s Heart to Heart leads the tuna category with a 78-pound yellowfin followed by Ron Innamorato’s Tag-n-Brag with a 56-pound true albacore while Art Kontos’ on Let it Ride is in third place with a 52-pound yellowfin. Greg Hockman on Size Matters jumped to the lead in the wahoo category after weighing a 74-pound ‘hoo. Chuck Seergy’s Cisco Kid leads the dolphin (mahi-mahi) category with a 47 pounder. Boats with multiple billfish releases today include Michael Brennan’s Smoker, Jack Miller’s Ale House, Bob Nabrezeski’s Easy Rider and Walt Kuhn’s Kirsten with four white marlin each. Boats with three white marlin releases include Craig Ziegler’s Box Lunch, Ted Wills Pipe Dream, Scott Steele’s Topless; Pat Healy’s Viking 61 and Viking 68 and Bob Austin’s Extractor. Boats releasing two white marlin include Bob Penza’s Oil Slick; Tom Jones’ Kingfisher; Ron Berg’s Highway 61; Carmine Falcone’s Cookie II; Bob Pacilli’s Penguin; George Barnard’s Olivia Grace; Russell Baiocco’s American Lady; Dave Wood’s Sea Toy and Tony Cherot’s Ynot Mable. Danny Burt’s Pumpin’ Hard released two white marlin and one blue marlin. Joe Parisi’s A-Lure, Al Connan’s Ditch Digger, Jack Laurendeau’s Sweet Caroline and Andy Schlotter’s My Time released a blue marlin and a white marlin.
