I recently bought a Poon. What do you guys use for mainline. It doesn't say on their sit. I found some nice braided poly line at home depot but its breaking strenght (working load) is only 120lbs. I would think you need something well above that

I prefer to use 30lb fluorocarbon on my Poon. It really helps get a good throw at them
The upside to poly is it floats. 1/4" should be fine. I opt for 1/4" 3 strand nylon. I personally don't care if it floats or not.
EDIT: Actually the truth of the matter is 120# breaking strength is fine. That's probably at a 120# dry hanging load they are referring too. However, i wouldn't use poly.
Depending what you're fishing, rig it like they recommend with a poly ball. You hit a BIG and GREEN fish like a momma mako or a big BFT, she's gonna take off. If you have it cleated off you'll pull the dart, or break your rope.
The poly ball acts as a shock absorber and a device to retrieve your catch. Unlike Jaws, most fish can't pull a 18" polyball especially after getting steel through the vitals.

How strong should the line be?
there is the dart, a 6' piece of stainless steel braided cable to a large brass barrel swivel, then a white 3/8" braided line and has red traces in it..X 25' long with a mountain clip at the end for more line, bouy , etc... (easy to hold and easy to see..) we fish swordfish though and when you need it it works great..
I use 250' of 1/4" braid right to the dart with a poly ball on the other end .. tie a bowline about 3 feet above dart so you can pull line out if dart goes through fish or lodges inside ... I have darted 30 or so giant bluefin and a few swords in the past 18 months with that set up and no issues ..
