The advantages---- a mullet will last all day sitting in a bucket of water; it is heavier than a dink ballyhoo so it can be shot out easier and faster; at least for the Pacific Sails, the mullet provided a somewhat bigger (fatter) profile so the fish can be pulled off the teaser more efectively; due to the extra weight and larger profile, the mullet responds instantly when moving it over from one side of the spread to the other.
I don't know how our Whites will respond, but I'll be giving this a go this year.
