Picker whats your opinion on the lack of inshore bite in nj

Pick, figuring since you make your living by finding fish, your probably pretty in-tune with where and why they would be in any location. The inshore bite in south jersey, from what i am seeing is basically dismal...is it just because the right conditions are not there or is it something bigger? There has been lots of good bluefin catches put up, but where are the under fish? Have you ever seen an August where places like the 28 mile, misty blue,cigar,750,ac ridge have been as devoid of life as they have been? Is there too much bait around, not enough bait around? The trunk has given up some fish, and it seems like some wahoo are starting to show....hell a few years ago you could drag a no frills spread and get covered up with foot ball blue fins and bonito, seems like they are non existent now. Bottom fishing......what do you think will happen to the tog fishery? The summer flounder fishing out front is real slow in south jersey.....do you think its due to migration and they just are not there yet due to the water temps? Where are the chopper Blue fish, Picker where are the fish...let us know your opinion on what is going on with the ocean in south jersey.

The water temps have been below average in our inshore waters this year. As of 7am this morning the water just outside cape may inlet was 67.6 degrees. Sea Isle Ridge 71.1, Cigar 72.5. Your just not going to get any pelagic species to come into water that cold.

Most of the fluke have just left the back water and the water your fishing for them in is 10 degrees colder than the water at the surface. I'm sure the shortage of fluke is also a factor but I believe water temp is the main culprit.

Great answer .......... Ebbs and Mr Box you took the words right out of my finger tips.

Look at last fall / winter, I was still catching bunker at will on Dec 20. The only reason I stopped was because I was in bad need of a operation on my leg.

Will we see fish inshore I certainly hope so !!! I'm fairly certain that we will.
