??? Phase of moon vs how good the fishing ???
The sun and the moon are the most influential factors in fish activity from how they affect the tides (less influential the further offshore you go) to the amount of available light. The latter of course affects movement of life up and down the water column which tends to trigger periods of feeding or inactivity.
But planning trips around the moon cycles gets to be problematic. I know very accomplished fishermen who swear by SOLUNAR Tables, and most of the old salts I know say that fishing tends to be off a day or two before and after a full moon.
But most of us fish when we can. Good luck getting the perfect moon phase to line up with safe, fishable weather and the schedule of your day job your family life etc. The best fishermen, and I'm not one of them, know how to get fish in the boat even when conditions aren't ideal. My recommendation is to learn how to do that instead of chasing the moon. Good luck.
OF COURSE, THERE MUST BE FISH AND ANIMALS PRESENT IN YOUR AREA TO JUSTIFY THE MOON PHASES AND IT'S EFFECT ON WILDLIFE AND FISH
THE MOON WAS JUST SHY OF BEING FULL THIS PAST SATURDAY AND THE CHEW WAS ON AFTER 12 NOON FOR SURE
LAST THURSDAY THE BITE DID NOT TAKE PLACE UNTIL 11:OO AM....RIGHT ON TARGET WITH THE OFFSHORE PHASE PREDICTION
When Wahoo fishing, I can predict with good certainty how strong of a bite we will have and when the bite will take place...The only monkey wrench in the equation will be barometric pressure.
Many offshore and inshore fish feed upon the tides..The moon and sun affect the tides...more the moon than the sun..The strongest tides will be on or around the new and/or full moon...The stronger the tides, the better the fish feed.
Also, offshore tides create upwelling and offshore currents...fish use both to feed, travel and migrate...Also, offshore currents can create temp boundaries, breaks and rips....its all connected in the big equation.
