Thinking of going here in June. I know it is offseason, but has anybody here been with this operation and what are your thoughts about pescapanama. Just need some good or bad info before we pull the trigger.
Jersey- Just my opinion, but all of the operations (except Tropic Star) pretty much fish the same waters. With that being said, I think you lose some of the flavor of Panama by staying on a boat for 24/7. By staying at one of the land based operations you get to see monkeys, parrots, agoutis, crocs, etc. If you're not into that stuff than stay on the boat, but for me seeing all those animals makes the trip "Panama"!
I fished pescapanama and enjoyed it a lot. The barge moves out into the islands making the runs to the fishing grounds a lot shorter than those of the river based operations.
It is true that we did not get to see any of the land based attractions in the mainland, but excursions to Coiba island are possible and the place is wild as they come. Lots of action under the barge lights at night also.
Fished here the first time in Feb. 2008, great lodge fishing a great area of Panama. Going back this May with a group of 15 I put together. Advantages of the floating lodge is that you have longer fishing days as the lodge move closer to each fishing destination usually a 30 to 45 minute run. Don't worry about the rainy season as most of the rain is at night and if you do get rain in the day it's short lived......Cassman
