My brother-in-law and father-in-law caught the pending NC State record reef donkey yesterday fishing out of Bogue Inlet! Way to go guys!!
As reported on another site:
Mike Krantz of Cape Carteret/Wilmington, N. C. headed offshore out of Bogue Inlet on 3/31/09, took his Dad, Ron, from Cape Carteret and friend Andy Duskie of Wilmington out to the Swansboro Hole on a combination Yellowfin Tuna/Deep Dropping trip. Much to his surprise, the Amberjack that he took to the Dudley's Marina Official N. C. State Scales for a Citation could end up being a new North Carolina State Record. The present State Record is 125 lbs., this giant reef donkey tipped the scales at 126 lbs. 8 oz. The State indicated that it would take 3 to 5 days before they would approve the new state record catch.
They didn't catch any Yellowfins, but loaded the boat up with Black Fin Tuna then decided to do some deep dropping in 350 ft. of 69o water. They caught several bottom dwellers but the big fish was the A. J. that Mike hooked up on a Williamson 9 ounce Abyss jig. Mike subdued this prize fish in 30 minutes with a Shimano Trevala XH rod, a Shimano 18000 Spheros reel with 80 lb. braid line and a 100 lb. fluoro carbon leader.
Congratulations to Mike and also to his Dad and friend Andy for assisting in getting this monster in the boat."
