I have only been posting on here a couple years and I try to stay low profile, but I thought those who know me and my wife might want to know that we lost our dear baby Savannah Caroline Pereira at 10 months of age this past week due to a tragic accident.
I had taken off more than a year of charter fishing to help my wife with her bed-rest pregnancy and to help raise our new baby girl in DC where my wife is employed. I do my airplane accident consulting work from home/anywhere on my laptop so it was a fun year of working at home and seeing a lot of the baby and wife in this special period of family life. I took off two days to fish bluefin in Hatteras last Sunday/Monday (awesome fishing) and Savannah died during my return drive to DC on Tuesday afternoon while she was under the supervision of our nanny.
Fishing will be difficult from now on knowing I was not there when she needed my protection the most, and life's real family priorities are suddenly even more apparent than they had grown to be during the past year.
Many of you have asked where to send flowers and cards. While we appreciate your offers, we ask that you instead make a donation to the non-profit CADE Foundation via the website we set up in honor of Savannah – see http://www.firstgiving.com/savannahcarolinepereira .
The CADE Foundation provides educational and other services to families struggling to overcome fertility issues in their efforts to have a child – see http://www.cadefoundation.org/ . They partner with Shady Grove Fertility Center who were wonderful in helping us conceive Savannah, and we can think of no better use of any funds in memory of our dear baby Savannah. Perhaps others will be blessed with a child through your contribution.
Thanks for your time reading this and for your prayers for our baby Savannah. Tight lines and family.
Charley & Lisa Pereira
