    Guanacaste, CR Fishing/Vacation Help

    Hey Guys,

Well the soon to be Mrs and I decided where we are going to go for our honeymoon/deployment leave when I get back!!
We're heading down to the Guanacaste area in Costa Rica! Was wondering if anyone had a good cpt to charter for a day of fishing while we were down there and hopefully some diving if we can get her certified before we leave.
Suggestions of things to do and that sort of stuff would also be great. Neither of us has been down there so we're pretty excited about it! And after being gone for 10 months.....it's going to be a MUCH needed break!!

Oh, we're looking to go at the end of March 09.

    Thanks,
    Tim

If fishing is important to you, I'd re-think going to Guanacaste at that time of year. The wind will hinder you there and the best fishing is further south at Los Suenos or Quepos.

You have picked a great place. I was there a few weeks ago about 10 minutes south of Papagayos and had a great fishing day with the Plautus

    http://www.billfishsafaris.com/boat_plautus.htm

I highly recommend them. They put us on fish, great captain and probably the best boat around there. Check out the report thread...

Costa Rica - Flamingo Report 11/15/2008

Activities by order of my liking:

    1. fishing - offshore or inshore
    2. zip line tours, many available. the one with the mud volcanic bath was the better one
    3. golf at reserva conchal
    4. fourwheeling on the beach
    5. Flamingo hotel bar in flamingo
    6. if you are brave and want to get in serious trouble go to Tamerindo at night (the monkey bar) on friday night.
    7. Otherwise go to tamerindo during the day, take some surfing lessons and leave by 4PM.

    Have a blast!

Marlin fishing can be excellent during March. The Plautus is
a great boat if you can fit it in your budget. An inexpensive
but quality alternative would be Tranquilamar. We went
1 for 3 on marlin last February fishing out of Flamingo. A lot of of the local boats spend January - April a couple hours south
in Carillo where the billfishing can be spectacular. Good luck
    and enjoy the area.

    Talking Plautus - Billfish Safaris

Couldn't agree more that the Plautus run by Billfish Safaris is the way to go. Xlnt boat, completely refurbished from the hull up... great captain and crew and the owner, James Harliss is a great guy to deal with.

Here's a link to watch two videos shot with them last June.

Not necessarily. That depends on where in Guanacaste. If up in Ocotal - defintely avoid it. If in Flamingo or Tamarindo not so much of a problem. Plautus runs a good operation, also the Dog Fleet.

Thanks for all the info and help guys, really! It's been a lot of fun planning and now it's REALLY exciting to look forward to!

With that said, we actually decided to switch cost to find something a lot more secluded/romantic.

    Thanks again for the info!
