I think the reason so many people are trying to sway you to st. thomas or Bermuda is because July and august are not the times to be in Panama or Costa Rica. Don't get me wrong you can catch fish in either location during July August but if this is a fishing vacation then you really want to be in a place that gives you the best shot at catching fish. That being said I would choose to fish with Wound up james or DeMako in Bermuda or ANy of a handful of world class guys in St. Thomas. Good Luck and keep us posted as to where you choose and how you did.

Now I guaruntee that some panama outfit will post a pic of an 800lb black caught in august. Like I said. Fish are caught but I would say it is just not the time of year to chose either central american location. Save that for your christmas vacation and have a blast!!!!!

Squid is right on with this.

Costa Rica and Panama have very good fishing in July and August. But, it is not the peak and you could get skunked some days. July 4th I had a 350 black lost a 250 blue misssed a stripe and had two sails in a half day, we missed a super slam, out of Golfito, CR. A side note Golfito's fishing is more like Panama with a lot of marlin but with the great numbers of sails of CR. It season and fishing are a lot diff. than Los Suenos which is pretty much where everyone refers to, when they say CR.

With all that said I would still in July, go with James on the Woud UP. CR/Panama is off season. Bermuda is at its peak! Not to mention the chance at a grander!

Guys, thanks for the great info. Like I said, just getting started in the planning stages. Never really thought about Bermuda.

I have been to St Thomas many times but never fishing. So between the 2, Bermuda is the better bet?

Bermuda is a great place. I think it is a lot better than St. Thomas. You can also do some self guided bonefishing there. It is pretty good with large fish. They aren't easy though. Wound Up James has a mate James that knows the in and outs of bonefishing there. Maybe he can hook you up. I always did it out by Cambridge beaches and Whale beach (about a 1/2 mile north of there but you enter at whale beach)

Northwest Costa Rica can have some excellent fishing that time
of year. Charter fishing out of Tamarindo, Flamingo, or the new
Four Seasons Marina are all good to fish out of. The Plautus,
Gamefisher II, and Permit III are all excellent charter boats.
