    Panama Marlin

After putting some pics up, I was asked to give the story on the 800lbs.+ Blue. I did not catch this fish, but a 75 year old man, that was vacationing at the same time as us did!

An hour into the fight the fish sounded and died, I think it was a blessing in disguise for the older gentleman as it probably saved his life. We were called to the scene shortly after the fish was up to help get it on board(that is me in the red shorts) and the elderly man was not in very good shape at all.

It was unfortunate that the fish died, but all the meat was donated to a Panamanian orphanage and was put to good use. The size of the fish was incredible, I am 200lbs. and kind of broad at the shoulders and I could have slid into his mouth!!

Hope this gives you guys that asked, a good account of the story behind the pic. Have a good day, PEZ.

The next bite on a jig.
This is your pic correct? I notice this is exactly how I bring a big fish into a small boat. You have come at the boat from a 90 degree angle to the side. For big tunas I would attach a come along to the point on the opposite side and pull the tuna in at exactly this same angle.

    Nice job on your fish.

    Cheers,
    Jim

Similar story here. 348 kg fish died but the meat went to feed the poor.

Pez that looks more like a black marlin to me?!?!?!

Congrats on a great fish, too bad she died but like you say the meat went to a good cause.

Do you guys use circle hooks down there?!?!? Just curious as to how the fish might have died, and whether or not it's preventable in the future!

    Awesome catch, BEHEMOTH!!!

I would say that you would know more so then me as I am not much of a billfish man, but it was confirmed by many that are, that it was a Blue, but again I am taking them at their word. Honestly I don't know if I could tell the difference without a picture.lol

All the live bait fishing was done using circle hooks, as far as I know. From what I was told it sounded and then died, not sure if it was stress or what. I wasn't on the boat during the hook up and battle, we were called over to give a hand getting it in the boat. So I really can't say for sure, but this was the story then and the one I heard all night.LOL

How is your apprentice doing? I may be coming down to see you in the summer sometime. Good luck to you. PEZ

My apologies to the ones that I said, said it was a Blue, I checked back with them and they corrected me and said it was indeed a Black. It was totally my error and lack of comprehension, guess in the excitement I didn't listen as I should have. Now I sound like a women.LOL

Thanks all for the lesson, as I said not much of a billfish man. Learn something new everyday and in this sport the learning is endless. Thanks again. PEZ
