Actually the new investment is the harbor at Moin on the Caribbean side. It will be finished long before Escondida or the new Quepos Harbor. It has greater potential than anything on the Pacific side. I found a weblink http://www.2costaricarealestate.com/...g_1119460.html

I fish out of Lagos Nigeria and if you open up the news papers you will probably see that Nigeria isn't one of the most favored spots in the world to live.

Don't get me wrong the fishing here has been great this year. I fish out of a small club called Appa on one of the creeks here that has been in existance for 40 years. There are about 15 boats mostly weekend warriors like myself. The drop off is about 16 miles out and if you get bored you can go to some abandoned rig platforms in Benin for Bara's

Two weeks ago I found a line at 21 miles and caught 100 dorado lots of small stuff but a lot of fun. The Marlin season has been great this year stated about March 1st and was running strong till last week.

The tuna season is probably about to start and if you have enought fuel to run out to some of Nigeria's Deep Offshore Installations you will find them loaded with fish.

The barriers poor infrastructure no or little power, corruption. You can't just pick up and go to the store and get what you want and it is not a cheap place to live.

Maybe in about 50 years when and if Nigeria gets itself together it may be a spot to look at. The country certainly has all the potential.

I hear ya man, I am 34 and can only speak to the last 12 years or so, just saying that what costs 1 million in Costa is available for 200K in Panama still. As for Nicaragua, there is definately some mass investment going on, but recent activity politically such as the sandanistas regaining some control, and that guy going up for murder are not good publicity items for the area. However, that being said my buddy has a small piece down there and is doing pretty good on value so far.

More importantly though is the OFFSHORE wind there, it blows 300 days a year and a lot of the time it blows 20-30kts+....

Hey Brian, regardless of what you take from this thread, one thing is for sure.....Costa Rica, Panama, Nicaragua.....All safer than Nigeria IMO

Didn't one of the Melton boyz get a 1058 or something last month down there?

Is that the one where Ortega wants to build a "new" canal? That idea was floated about 50 years ago and never came about. If they were to build it, it would be far easier and cheaper, since the waterway is already in place. They would then need only make 6km cut btwn Lake Nicaragua and the Pacific.

I got a report this morning from a friend in CR - the Gamefisher II, Plautus & Permit III are getting a hot tuna bite, one or two marlin bites and five sailfish yesterday and the day before.

Alf, you should an email of my schedule. I spoke with Starwars late last night and he's into thousands of stripeys! Go to that website I mentioned.

We'll be in Melbourne tomorrow night, then down to Hobart for a week of I&I.

David harbour and Flaminco Marina are great places. Anchor out or tie up at the dock. Fuel isn't nearly as expensive. Yes you can fish Hannibal Banks, but the vast majority of the fishing is East of there, closer to Cebaco Bay. Buzos will be a great addition to a wonderful country.

Pirating - where and when? Haven't seen anything there in years. Now if you're talking about Colombia, Peru then I'd say yes.
i agree with george on this

Well for what it is worth most of the highliners from the Northwest winter in Costa rico and believe me we are the type that go where no man has gone before who do you think actually started the resorts marina's down there it wasn't the California boyz, but word has it that CR is just becoming to expensive for the day to day cost and Panama is where the almighty us dollar is starting to fall simply because when we go fishing it is mostly about the fishing and who cares about anything else, my 1st trip to Panama was in the late 70's and I loved it told all my bro's about it for years but they still go to CR mostly just because it is convenient, sometimes I feel George comes off a little gruff but I agree with him 100% on this one!!!PEACE
