    Pakula Lures

I haven't seen too much about these lures on this site. I've been watching Pakula's videos on his website and they are very interesting as are his lures. I'd ike to hear about people's personal experience with pakula lures. I'm in the process of changing my approach to offshore trolling and it might include some of his lures. Thanks.

we had peter to our fishing club and he has perfected those things. Out of 132 hookups, he has caught 130 fish. Pretty amazing numbers.

    That's a pretty bold..

statement on a bite to catch ratio......actually, it's pretty laughable. Can't believe everything you hear....Nothing wrong with him or his lures, but those numbers are BS.

His Lumo sprocket got my attention. That thing looks awesome in the water. I'm going to add a couple of his lures to my spread. His website has an excellent array of videos.

Through the years, Pakula developed lures that catch fish. Some of the best known are the "roach" line (cockroach, mouse, rat) and the sprocket line (from the small sizes to large). Besides these lures, there are two more amazing fish catchers: the quite small Uzi that gets everything (tuna, dorado, whities) and the Smoking Jo, a lure that never comes out of my spread for big blues.
If you are not experimented, follow Peter Pakula suggestions and begin with a full Pakula spread. They are easy to tune, just put them in the positions, colours and and sizes suggested by Pakula, and you will catch fish. You will not get 130 in 132 bites, but you will get a good percentage of successful hookups, because Pakulas lures run straight.
I began big game fishing, reading his stuff and following his advices, and I canīt thank Peter enough for all the advices he gave me.
With time, you probably will begin using some other head types, namely some of the slants made by Black Bart, Joe Yee, Marlin Magic, etc,, but chuggers, like those designed by Pakula, are the way to begin. You just canīt go wrong with them.

I recently bought 2 of them. One is still on back order. We have run the Dojo Peche for 2 trips. It hasn't caught anything but it teased up a white.

Peter has a new technique to make the hook shaft stay down with a weight, this is why he has so much success with them.

Petes a good guy and makes a good lure but I got prime ocean front property for sale in Kansas if you are swallowing that ratio.

Lot of fish just smack a lure. Some grab the head it self. Not all that hit eat. Hook goes nowhere near the mouth. Other times hook sets in brittle or soft tissue and just flat pulls. Thats just nature doesn't make the lure bad or good. Locking that hook goes a long way in "improving" hook up ratios but numbers like that just fall short of realistic.

    Guys don't confuse the issues.

Lures don't catch fish, nor do baits.

Hooks do, seems a simple enough statement. Think about them as separate components.

Lure and baits should be run to maximise bites and aggression.

The hooks in the baits or lures should be run to maximise hook up rates. They are two totally different issues.

Lures and Baits should not interfere with getting the most out of your rigs.

Rigs shouldn't interfere with getting the most of your lures and baits.

I'm happy to run through these principles if you wish then you can increase your own hook up rates and drop the cynicism.

That's your call, but as this thread is about Pakula Lures, not hook up rates start a new post if you want the info on Pakula Rigging principles and let me know about it on pakula@pakula.com

PS we have a new range coming out soon:
