Talking Owner Hooks

I thought it was from Ed, picking crab shells from between his teeth.

I used Owner 5/0 and 6/0 two weeks ago in a sailfish tournament and every one had the same problem - 3 or 4 hours in the water and no barb at all. At first I thought it was the swivel wear causing it but we had the same issue when rigging dinks with monel.
I dont think the barb has a lot to do with a fish staying stuck but without it the bait will flip off the hook easily.
I have 30 or so left that are hitting the trash can tonight.

I have taken the liberty and sent this thread to Owner in that I am on their pro-staff. They have received it and will have an answer shortly. I will keep everyone informed as to what I hear.

Had same problem Andy just thought it was the hooks i had switched to 2004 ELF for the rest of the tournaments. Definantly aggrevating.

Circle hooks are made to be desposable hooks. They are not made to last any amount of time. If you get 2 days out of them great. If you catch one fish on it great, throw it away. They are made to be cheap and not stay in the fish forever. Just use them once.

Adressing the original concern...

Owners and a few others including Gamakatsu's I have had this happen. THey only happen with Chemically sharpened hooks. If the tip of the hook is left in the chemical a bit too long it will weaken the tip and eventually later break off. Tis happens all the time with gamakatsu circles it seems. On a side note we straightened one of these owners on a white last week. Lost the fish. Circles have a loooong way to go to become as of an effective hook as J's.

I can say i have seen it before but not recently.. Your sounding good about the chemicals.. that would seem like it would effect it if you ask me..

Also i have not trolled them a lot but had not really had to much of an issue with the super mutu for chunkin and such...

I would like to see a pic of it!

Whitey you got a pic of it? want to see what it looks like.. i know what you mean but would still like to see a pic if someone has it!
