Overnight in the Spencer - 8/9-8/10

Buddies Fred and Dan as well as new friends Tom and Tim joined me on the Got Fish Too? for an overnighter this past weekend. We ran all the way from OCMD to the Lobster Claw Saturday afternoon and put out the trolling spread. We looked for marks first hoping to jig something up but never saw anything. We trolled the claw a little while and after deeming it void of life we decided to run to the Spencer to get ready for the evening. We noticed some bait breaking the surface as well as some marks deep right at the tip and towards the outer NE wall while trolling before dark. We set up the drift towards the NE corner of the bight based on the drift. We ended the night with 1 small keeper YFT and 1 that pulled off at the boat. We only had a couple of small schools go through. At daybreak we decided to start trolling to the Wilmington to make for a shorter run home. I turned the boat south and we found ourselves in a nice weed line running directly towards OCMD and the tip if the Wilmington. Gotta love luck like that. We ended the trip by pulling 3 dophin off the weed line and 2 more off the balls at the tip of the Wilmington. We only fished the balls in the Wilmington for about 30 minutes as we needed to head home.

We ran south of the first storm but had to go through the second one as it was just off the inlet. They made for a nice light show and some weird seas (180 shift of the wind). Overall we had a nice trip with a great crew. The weather was perfect except for the final 2 hours. Hope to do it again sometime soon.

We also caught and released a 190 lb white (1 of the dolphin sunk the hook in Tim's leg). Fred made quick work to cut him loose and he swam away in good health.

    Sorry - no photos.

Tim weighs 190 lbs and he is white - see the part about the hook in the leg. Sorry, I guess I could have been clearer on that.
