With the rumor of a good long fin bite in the Hudson we loaded up the boat and headed SE…. We left the dock around noon on Saturday. Had a nice ride out with a 5-7 foot swell and a small chop on top.
Got to the canyon and did a little trolling around. Got nothing on the troll but marked some bait down deep and decided that was a good place to spend the night. We had squid all around us the entire night and a ton of dolphin feeding on them. They did provide entertainment on a very slow night of catching blue sharks….
Up on the troll in the morning we had fish on as soon as the lines hit the water. The first two long fin were huge…. Guessing around 65-70lbs. From there it was non-stop. Lots of long fin from 35lbs to around 70lbs. We also managed to get a 200# class big eye to the gaff.
It sounded like everyone that was out there had a great time with the LFT and there were a couple of other Eyeballs caught as well. I did hear of a few YFT being caught but it didn’t sound like anything to write home about.
I suggest that if at all possible you get out there NOW….. I haven’t had a day like that in a long time. It’s really good to see the longfin coming back to visit.
I didn’t take a lot of pictures but here is one from back at the dock.
