After taking a couple weeks off to recoup from a long Bahamas season, the Over Under was back out this week and got the folks from Elite Group, into some respectible yellowfin action. Out for an inshore day troll, we stopped at the 30 line inside the wilmington and put the lines in. The area looked good, with lots of rips and small temperature breaks. Another boat had just reported hooking up a big blue marlin in the area, so that was all we needed to hear. It didn't take long till we had the first bite, a double header. One fished missed the bait (a problem we had all morning), and the other came tight on a green spreader bar. The fish was brought boatside, and decided to take another quick run and pop...hook pulled..oh well, off to get another one. The next fish was a single and we boated it, a 40# yellowfin. The action continued all morning till about 11:30 when it completely shut down. We ended up boating 3 yellowfin to 50#'s and missing and loosing many more. The fish were short biting the ballyhoo and several crashed spreader bars on the unhooked squids. Most of the action came on Tournamnet Cable splash bars, with green machines trailing, although we did get a lot of bites on skirted ballyhoo as well, just that most of the ballyhoo bites were short.
HI:
Yeah, lots of times, that stuff happens. Bad news when your comm. fishing.
Try this:
When the fish hits and misses, SOMEONE grab a rod from the holder(inside rods) or the line from your reel and start jigging the lure in 12 inch jigs . Try a medium jigging action. To get back to the rod in the holder, Pull the rod out, put the tip IN THE WATER.....IN THE WATER....IN THE WATER and use the same jigging action AS IF YOU WEER SWEEPING THE FLOOR. Yeah sounds DUMB, BUT IT WORKS.
If two or more do it, than you will get a whole school up and biting. HINT...HINT...HINT... Keep the safety lines on the reel. I had one deckhand loose a rod o/side 'cause he got excited. OOUUCCHH !!
Leave the o/rigger rods alone. If you do try it here. Just pull on the line and leave the rod alone.
I give hints like this and many more at my seminars. I hope Ive helped.
See you at the shows this winter.

PS;
It aso works if your trolling meat.ugh!
Trey and Ancient Mariner: We had 12 legit bites and only boated 2 on mostly naked ballyhoo in the same area you were fishing. We found that temperture break and worked that are all day. One of our problems was our charter started power drinking at 7:00 am and that did not help matters. I cannot blame them because half the fish bit short on naked ballyho but most of our fish came in 2 and 3 at a time and we lost all our multiple hook-ups at the boat when the fish ran to one side and the anglers did not respond or they got their line crossed. We did not do like Tred Barta does in this TV program and get the fish in the boat. We probably could have had 20 or more bites but by the time we got all the lines rerigged and back in the water we lost lots of precious time. We did have a couple of bigger fish that dumped 2/3 of a 50 wide but lost them also for above reasons also. Overall we had lots of action and I kept my cool which as a younger man I would have been yelling and screaming if we lost this many fish. Every one at lots of fun and that is what is it all about and we will see this same group down in Morehead City for the giants this winter. I will tell them about the no drinking rules in North Carolina on weekends that I just mandated when fishing for giant bluefin.

Considering the Over Under's track record, I think they already know what they are doing...and they've given seminars of their own. I figured you guys would be doing the MA500, guess not though? Good luck and looking forward to hearing your reports through the fall.
Nice work. Atleast you got some in the boat. YF bite seems to be getting good. We had 7 of are 8 fish on GM and spreader bars. Seems like they didn't want the meat where we were fishing. The fish were full of sand eels
