LOW PROFILE shoved off yesterday, as they finally got a weather window to depart for their winter home at Baker's Bay Marina in the Abacos. Baker's is centered right in the middle of the Abacos in close proximity to Treasure Cay, Green Turtle Cay, and Marsh Harbor. After a quick stop for fuel in Morehead City, they should arrive around Thanksgiving and start fishing right away, as Baker's Bay is hosting their Grand Opening this week and will have a full house. The word on the fishing is HOT, HOT, HOT!!!! An early season winter Wahoo bite is in full swing with reports of 12 fish a day, coming in from right in front of Guana Cay where we'll be docked. We have been updating our Bahamas Fishing Packages all week and now have a great option with Treasure Cay, in addition to Baker's Bay and Grabbers Resort on Guana Cay.
Islamorada Fishing Report - Weekly Wrap
The winds have been strong most of the week, which has made getting out tough here in the Florida Keys. The sailfish bite was great at the beginning of the week. The numbers were good, with anywhere from 9 to 15 fish being released per boat . As the week went on it slowed a bit, but there was still plenty of action. The reef got slow due to the wind pushing the cold water out of the back side. This has a negative effect on the shallow water fishing. The colder water shocks the reef life and the fish get what we like to call clam mouth. They just dont want to eat. We do however need this to get things going. This should get the mackerel and grouper biting with a little more frequency.
Looks like the weather is perfect for the 500 mile crossing and they should arrive Friday morning. We are headed to Bakers Bay, which is opening up this month and where we'll be based for most of the year. LOW PROFILE is the boat headed there now, and will stay till March, then do 10 weeks in San Salvador, Cat Island, Crooked Island, Rum Cay, etc....We are sending OVER UNDER to Bakers in March to take it's place and on a full time basis going forward.
From what I gather, the wahoo bite has been great the last couple weeks right out in front of Guana Cay, so our guys are pumped to start putting some fish back in the boat. We really haven't been offshore since our last overnight trip in NJ back in mid October, so we are ready.....
Here's a picture I just got from Bakers as to the update of their progress. This is an incredible project they have going on over there....
Lots More Bakers Bay Photos - Some incredible shots of this massive project!
