    Over Under 114# wahoo

Well after a good bluefin season we have headed over to the bahamas . After doing various boatwork and tackle work Thomas and i decided to test our tackle before our first group arrives tomorrow. After getting sharked on out first wahoo we continued on boating a 58 and a 40. Shortly after we had a double one was a cuda the other rather large. After getting the fish closer we realized we had a lunker. Thomas sunk the first gaff and yes we needed another . It took both of us to bring the 114 over the rail. Hope we can have the same luck when our guests arrive tomorrow . Pics to follow. All fish were caught on purple balck yo zuri plugs with 6 feet of 600 lb cable followed with 20 ft shock leader (400lb) and 4 lb trolling weight. Report to follow monday after out first group

Dude, I hope you have a good supply of those little purple things. They put a scratch on that one.

Looks a little bumpy in that first picture. Anytime it looks rough in the pictures, Oh boy.

Way to go, Joe! We call those ones over a buck "blue marlin with a wahoo paint job and teeth"! Can you imagine a 173??? I KNOW that there are fish over two bucks down in Cabo...we've had 'em on, but as you know, you are pretty much a victim of your customers' skill or lack of same when you're in da biz and Murphy's Law usually arranges for a wuss or hung over weakling on the gear when a horse shows up. If it's a record fish, you can't touch anything or get anyone else on the rod and you have to leave whoever's on rod on it, no matter what. There was one in particular that I don't like to talk about because I wind up whining and crying like a little girl when I think up the hung over, loser, wimp on the rod. He wasn't even the guy paying for the charter, who was not only in good shape, but was a very good angler. He felt so bad about what his buddy (a customer) did, he ponied up a full day's charter rate as a tip for me and the boys. Since I never took any of the tip money, the boys were happy campers, but I sure wasn't!

But Lordy, Lordy, don't let any of 'em, but especially those gators bite ya! Back when we used to gaff them I had a careless crew lose three fingers in a nanosecond to one of those big guys - not only bit his ring finger off, but chopped the gold ring flat in half! Yow! His nickname was "Stubito" after that. We have slid them in the transom door for many years now and when you do, they just lay there, as long as you don't conk 'em or anything. Just grab tail and leader and slide them into the box.

That guy who got bit got blood all over my 'pit and ruined a wide open wahoo bite because of me having to pick up and plastic bag those fingers and get the bleeding stopped and get him to the docs. Bummer! Great wahoo bites are hard to come by!

    Anyhoo (pun intended), great FangBanger!

I don't use them anymore, but I used to fish a lot of Marauders. From my Wahoo Troller's Bible...
