OU Sailfish Update - Getting back on track here in S. Florida

Things seem to be getting back on track here, atleast to some extent after the cold streak we've been experiencing.

It's been pretty snotty the last couple days, but the temperatures are back up into the low 80s and the wind is out of the E/SE. The sailfish are starting to respond pretty well. Yesterday we had 3 of 5 out of Lauderdale flying the kites on our 45 Cabo on a full day, and Capt. John Oughton just called in on his way in from a short morning trip. Both our Evans and Whiticar fished here out of Islamorada this morning and from the sounds of it they each had a decent number of shots and released 3-5 apiece. John commented that if it wasn't so damb rough they'd probalby have had a few more. Bait continues to be tough in the morning, and ballyhoo is the name of the game. Seems like the conditions are right and tomorrow should be even better.

This was from a couple days ago before it warmed up obviously!

Capt Joe has a great update of what happened this week on his trips. I finally got him to take a minute and update what he's been doing. He's been fishing alot and it's been good. Check it out:

Capt. John Oughton just got in from a snotty half day trip here in the Keys. He had both the Whiticar and the Evans out today. Both got into pretty good sail action on a short morning trip:

The sailfish bit is not on fire but it is consistant! The past 2 days we have had at least 7 shots a day at sails. We have also been catching plenty of bonita and kingfish along the reef. Today we had a great day going 4-8 on sails and catching a dozen bonita. The weather has been great and the fishing has been consistant. Last week the bite seemed to be better up to the north and this week the bite has definetly been better down to the south.

Let's talk a bit about swordfishing. 2 days ago some good friends of mine went out and landed a monster 600lb swordie during the day. They made one drop and got lucky enough to get her to the boat. What a catch! Yesterday a few more boats fished and they all had bites, and there were a few nice fish brought in. The night bite has been great too. I have been getting solid reports of 2-5 bites per night and some nice sized fish also.

Next week we have the Mayor's Cup tournament down in Miami! Wish us luck! Hopefully we bring home another big win for OU!

Bite started slow today. We opted to stick it out all day. Right at the end of the day they started to chew. We ended up 5/10 on sails and a nice blackfin tuna!

I'm in the keys, for a little R&R.

LOTS & LOTS of laundry flying here. bite has been good, very good....some might call it hot. 6, 8, 10, 12 flags on riggers, every rigger.

You want some action, get your a$$ to the keys & get some of this.
