Wow what an end to a long week!!! How about those boys up there in Avalon, NICE JOB!!!
Us, well we closed the week out with a super day ourselves. Two Blue Marlins, 200lb and 450lb’ers and a Whitey to boot!! We also had several nice Gaffer Dolphins as there were no Tuna bites for us today.
The conditions have been changing very quickly all week, for example the first of the week we still had the Bluefins…but just the larger flavor, the smalls have moved on. The water was green with streaks of clean and dirty; temperature was 73.5 and varied from there. The end of the week we had very clean green, with just a touch of blue in it and temps were from 73.8 to 76.
Then....out with the Bluefins and in with the Marlins! On Saturday morning there were a quick dozen or so Whiteys caught on the Hambone, as well as several Blue ones just outside the Hot Dog in 30 Fathoms of water. Out there it was clean blue 75 and green 73.6 clean.
We did manage to get in our overnight in the midst of all the regular trips and it went great! We drifted all night and caught a nice assortment of sharks and several Dolphins. A Dusky and two Blue sharks, as well as, a small mako which was released and lastly a 200lb Tiger shark. Plenty of action all night!
In the am we got very lucky with catching a few small Bluefin just outside Massey’s. We had a hunch and it paid off!! Trolled a few more Dolphin and called it a day. The middle of the week we managed to find some Yellowfins roaming around in 35 Fathoms. There were both some small throw backs and several nicer class fish from 40 to 50lb mixed in.
Overall the week went well and everybody came home happy!
Tight Lines!!!
