hey i got this report for school where i need to find out what i need to do to get my dream career and y dream career is to chartera boat out of virginia or NC i dont really know what i need if i got to go to college or anything can you help me any info is appriciated thank you in advance
go to a maritime college. get a bs degree in marine transportation (work to a capt license) or and engineering license... all of it is unlimited tonnage. much as i hated it while i was there, cant complain bout the money im makin rite now, rite outta school... fished all over the western hemisphere for 4 years. saw some crazy shit.
unlimited tonnage is a better endorsement to have than a 50/100 ton license... leaves you more options.
agreed. wish i would have gone that route. will leave you prepared to make money on boats of all kinds--not just fishing boats. there are very few people who can make it year round fishing, esp. out of nc/va or north.
IF YOU WANT TO STAY BROKE ALL THE TIME....MAINTAIN A CHARTER BOAT JOB....
IF YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY....WELL...THATS ANOTHER ISSUE
BUT GO TO COLLEGE DUDE! ...GET THE MASTERS....THEN YOU CAN AFFORD TO GO FISHING.......BUT BY THE TIME YOU GET YOUR EDUCATION FISINISHED ....NEW MARINE RULES WILL BE IN PLACE AND THE ONLY FISHING ALLOWED THEN WILL BE ON A COMPUTER...
GO TO SCHOOL TO BECOME A CONGRESSMAN AND WORK FOR THE FISHERMEN!.
Attemting to turn something you love to do (fishing) into money-making venture is often a HUGE mistake, IMO-been there, done that and it got old. Do the college thing and do it WELL, work summers/weekends on boats or run your own, then find a lucrative career so you can buy your own boat...
go to college then figure out what you want to do, if it is a charter business do it but have something to fall back on. Thats the direction that i am going for.
My self i am looking at the maritime academy's, and URI , But i will be also studying business.
Get a degree in business or naval architecture. Then use the education to build the best darn charter biz in NC. Don't let anybody, and I mean anybody, squelch your dreams. Forget the naysayers. Keep thinking about your dream and you will naturally move towards it. But don't do it, unless you plan on being the best!!
