OSS Temp and Turbidity images from 4-14-10

I have place temperature and turbidity images from 4-14-10 in the OSS web site. Please check out the turbidity images. It appears the water is extremely dirty in some areas. In the past 3 years we have been providing turbidity images I have never seen the waters so turbid. It may be a heavy plankton bloom causing the turbidity but I can't say until I receive some ground truthing from boats in the area. Any input please call me at 800 827 4468.

Maybe the heavy rains we've had? Although, WHOI/GOM is expecting a bad red tide this spring.

Red tide would provide the turbidity the rain wouldn't. I have found these turbidity images very accurate so something is going on out there. Would appreciate any feed back from anyone thats been on the shelf.

Hope there is some insight on this. That water is showing as dirty as the Delaware bay! Something seems a little out of whack here.

Exactly BBE, I have seen this dirty water on about 5 recent passes which tells me that it very well may be accurate, but during the winter I haven't been monitoring it on a daily basis. If not accurate, its the modis aqua satellite screwing up again and again. Still need ground truthing. It could be a red tide or a plankton bloom that's causing the turbidity.

Wish i had the time, boat in the water, and the man power to make the run out and check it for ya. unfortunately i dont. hope someone can put a little more insight into it for us all. Red tide, plankton bloom, whichever it is i hope it either clears up soon or something ir wrong with the satellite! please keep us informed len! appreciate all your efforts and your services.

Fishing out of hatteras right now and our fishing has gotten off to a slow start for yellowfins and gaffers because there has been so much water coming south from the labrador it has been pushing the stream out to sea. I cant remember ever seeing the current run so hard from the north.
