Me and a couple buddies are thinking about heading to OI for some yellowfin fishing. The date we are set on is the second or third week of Feb. Is the yellowfin action usually consistent in that time period?

BIG 4 of us went last February, we caught 10 YFT and 1 wahoo. GO to www.oregon-inlet.com for fish reports and local weather.
The fishing is slow offshore this year for yellowfin out of OI. There have been some scattered bluefin from reports from mates down in OI.
Might want to wait till mid to late March for YFT.
What do you guys pull for YFT? Ilanders w/ hoo's? Same appetites as BFT's ?

I would bet most of the guys pull sea witches for yellowfins down there. Up here we pull sea witches, Islanders, and spreader bars. I guess I should wait to see if the bite picks up before I book.

Every year is a little different. Last year there were tuna's there all winter, year before zippo, nothing...the fleet were all running down to Hatteras in March and April to catch fish. I wouldn't bet on any consistent action until March in Hatteras and April in OI.
