    oregon inlet info

seems we're kicking the idea of towing the boat south for a while. i found a few dry storage places in the manteo area just looking for some info on ramps. boat is 34' overall however loads and unloads like a 20'er. my ? is what boat ramps are there around this area, how much tide rise and fall is there, how far ride to inlet. also are there places to keep the boat in the water for the weekend while im down there.

    thanks in advance....dave

You will be hard pressed to fing a better ramp to launch from than OI. If you put out @ the Fishing Center, it is about a five minute run if you shoot the crack. Make sure you keep all the little markers to your starboard side heading out, not a whole lot of room for error, better off to follow someone out to be on the safe side. I am sure someone on this site could lend or rent you a slip for a few days. The tide does not play a huge role in ability to launch here. With a long boat, just have someone watch the ramp dropoff. Some tuna were caught this weekend I heard, the Striper bite has been pretty hit and miss, but there have been some COWS caught.
    Adaptation is paramount to success...

The one bent bill suggested is the closest to the inlet and will also be the most crowded. There is also a ramp across from pirates cove but that is a good bit further from the inlet yet closer to manteo. You could really go with either one.

Broad creek Marina in Wanchese has a great ramp and you can keep your boat in the water or on the trailer for a fee. Not crowded at all. 5 Miles from the inlet, Fuel at the Marina and a tackle shop, Ice and Bait.....Mark

Its about 190 miles as the crow flies from Cape May to Oregon Inlet. If you pick a nice day you can make it there a lot faster by water. I don't see the advantage of towing other than being able to come back to NJ when you want without waiting for a weather window.

only reason to have trailer is to keep boat on it when not in use, kind of the peace of mind thing knowing its safe on the trailer in a locked yard..

Fritz makes a good point. I believe Mark (offshore) keeps his boat on a lift in Wanchese. If I'm correct you can rent these slips that already have a lift on them. I don't think you should be too worried about the security around there at all either and you'll have the peace of mind that the boat's out of the water.
