Great trip either way- what i noticed was: 1. The fin is a little too pronounced at the front and short in the back 2. body shape is not quite right compared to the longbilled spears I have caught- their bodies have been more wahoo like than marlin like- i don't know the right way to word it, i guess they are not as thick in the shoulder, more uniform the whole way down. And lastly the color, even a lit up whitey can't compare to a spear as far as the stripes and the hue of them.

Like i said, a great trip, i am just leaning towards whitey or roundscale (which in my book is the same thing).

now that you mention the whitey thing, that was the first thing I thought when I saw the photo. I was thinking that if I had caught that I would have called it a white. But.... I dont know much at all about Bill fish ID or much about any other species.

Look the video posted by Marty (wahoonbox) a couple weeks ago. They had a longbill in that video that looks just like the photo in the link to the taxidermy site.

Either way that was a great day for the you Kevin.

I'd say its a white as well. Great Job on your day.

Here is a pic of a lit up spearfish we caught in the deep of the Poor Mans a few years back. Nothing compares to the way they light up.
