temp charts....look for good temperature eddies. If all else fails follow the charter fleet, but be prepared if they don't like you. If you follow them, make sure to stay out of their way, on the outskirts of fleet woul dbe best, try not to get too close to any of them.

The Oregon Inlet charter fleet leaves between 5 and 5:30 each morning. The Broad Creek and Pirates Cove boats leave their slips about the same time but they have to run to the Inlet.
Get down to where you are just outside Oregon Inlet Fishing Center and follow them out. A favorite place for the fleet is around "The Point". It is 124 degrees from Oregon Inlet. |

Thanks for all the help. I may just go out of hatteras inlet and go to the rock pile for dolphin. I don't think I can talk my wife into going as far as the point. I was hoping they would be closer to the 102 tower or something. looks like I was way off. Oh well just trying to learn. Anyway thanks again for the info.

A good place to start is with a Roffers sea temp chartfor the night before you inted to fish. They will fax it to you or email and suggest area to fish.
Following the big guys can be challenging in a small boat, you may not be able to keep up. Heard of one boat doing that that ended up off Va beach before the lead boat stopped to let him know he was headed for OC? True Story (Not saying you'd do that- it wouldda been funny if it wasn't so dangerous! Where they are today is of no use on the 4th. You can bet they are between the Point and East of inlet. You'll see where majority are headed, combine that with a local mate and a Roffers report and your good to go. Hateras is a shorter run and wife comfort is very important!! Saturday sounds better than Sunday. Monitor Wind and direction. Wind opposite current can make things a litte more "sporty"! That's why I asked permission from Mrs Phat Mann to purchase a Paul Mann! Good luck |
