    Oregon Inlet 9/12/2009

Headed out of Oregon Inlet Saturday morning (late start) after having problems getting my outriggers in the holders. Also there was a dredge that had most of the inlet blocked off so had to navigate around that. saw a charter boat on the horizon so pointed the bow that way and ran to about 100 fathoms before putting lines in. caught a handfull of bailers around a clump of weeds before we had a white come up on the port flat line. dropped it back and came tight. 30 minutes and 15-20 jumps later had the leader. During the fight another white came up and grabbed the bait that was dangling off the outrigger. my dad had him on for about 5 minutes before he spit the hook. got back on the troll and caught another bailer. had a good hook up on the long rigger for about 3 minutes which I suspect was a yellowfin. quiet for the next hour until a marlin demolished the green machine on the WWB center rigger. Spooled half of a thirty in a minute. turned the boat towards the fish as was worried we were going to get spooled. must have gotten too much slack as he quickly spit the hook. After that jigged some skippies under some birds and were about to call it when several whites chased a bait ball under the boat. Was an amazing sight. we didnt catch any of them but to see them coralling the bait was awesome enough. i wish i had some pics but the camera that I had just gotten for my birthday was sitting safely at the rental house in Nags Head. Beautiful day on the water. Lots of boats out. Hopefully that dredge will be gone by the next time. When the tide is running it is a little nerve racking. tight lines.
