About 45 minutes to an hour depending on whether you take the old house channel or the charter cut, and i would say if you are not familiar with the area and are in a boat worried about depth i wouldnt go near the charter cut. For the most part it is well marked a little confusing when you have to break right or left to the fishing center or to the south if your headed for the inlet then you need to take right if your headed to the inlet and then a left at the first channel on the left which is old house channel and that will take you straight to the inlet for the most part it is all around 14 feet deep as long as you stay near the middle the old house channel is frequntly moving so the middle is probably your best bet. hope this helps and i hopefully someone else will chime in and let you know anything i may have missed.
Its about 9-10 miles if you go through the crack from PC. Everything is marked fairly well though it is not a straight shot. There are a few shallow areas along the way to the inlet and dont stray out of the Channel markers if you dont know the waters. The crack had a few shallow areas 5-6ft. Our last trip and the bar in inlet was about average depth we marked a low of 8ft in one spot coming back in at low tide. My suggestion would be to follow a boat from PC or Wanchese to the inlet and lay down a good track. Just remember that the crack will change a little from trip to trip so that part of your track might differ. This year the end of the crack closest to the inlet has shifted a good 80yds east from last year but the captains at the Fishing center have moved the barrels accordingly. If you are in the fishing center drop a few bucks in the jar to help out with the marking of the crack.....Mark

SOMEWHERE ON THE WATER IN NC !!
once under the bridge is it or are there any no wake zones or can you pretty much run abit.
no "no wake" zone's past the bridge. You would do well to heed the advice given to follow "experience" out, especially if it's your first time out there. Frank
If you are talking about the OI bride.Once you get under the bridge its now a straight shot out. The CG finally had all the buoys lit up our last trip. We normally leave the dock at around 4:00 to 4:30am and some of the channel markers from the bridge to the sea buoy had been out.I wouldn't run hard out of OI it can stack up on a outgoing low tide and if you add a little NE breeze it makes it worse. I cant tell you how many times I have been out of the inlet but I always treat it with respect. Last trip it was slick under the bridge but as we got to the bar four commercials were at a complete stop...Not a good sign. Outgoing low tide. They were waiting to catch a good set at the bar. We did the same there were 6 footers breaking over the bar found a good hole and went over 4 nice rollers and it was completely smooth past the bar. Just us caution and try to follow someone the first time out. I would make a good run in the daylight if it is your first time through. No matter how many times I run the inlet I still get a pucker factor as I go under the bridge. But I am not in a fifty footer either.
If you are talking about the 64bridge at PC there are no No wake zones And it is a good run to the crack or the old house channel. Just use caution there are a few tight sweeping turns as you enter the crack where local knowledge will help. If you go through hells gate use the same caution as there are some tricky turns where all the channels meet.. ...Mark

Do what we always did from PC start the boat untie the ropes and follow the first charter out, it takes a lot of the stress out of the process![]()
we make it there in 20 minutes....we are doing about 55 mph but you have to watch the depth.

THANKS GUYS , SOUNDS GREAT...DAVE
remember: when running in the channel and sound to ALWAYS look behind you to make sure you are actually in the channel. One foot out, either sound, and you will rub bottom. sometimes it is deceiving so look behind the boat after passing markers to make sure.
