    Opinions how far is WWWB

I have heard many pro and con opinions the last few years on fishing baits wwwwwb and wonder how far do others feel is the correct distance. We fish a line off one rigger at 325 yards and the other rigger about 350 yards and the shot gun up to 400 yards and have been very successful on the medium size BFT in the summer months fishing this way. At times we do not even bother with the planner baits as the wwwwwb just flat outfished our planner lines. Not always but they did quite a few times. We also found we were catching when other boats were not putting their baits wwwwwb. Matter of fact this is true most of the time. I do personally believe this type of trolling works quite well at least for inshore BFT. What I do like when fishing wwwwwb is we can put a couple of deep baits on planners for Wahoo while tuna fishing at the same time and have not had any issue slow trolling for wahoo but most of the time we have not targeted Wahoo while tuna fishing. Would like to to more of this type of fishing and target Wahoo this coming season with the legal limit on BFT probably one per day.

When I am talking about wwb I mean over 1/2 of an 80W spooled with 100 pound suffix- I imagine that is 400 plus yards.

Its interesting, in the past few seasons here in OCMD the planers and z wings have whooped the wwb's ass. Funny you have seen the opposite in NJ.

    HEY CAVE....GOOD LUCK IN 2009!

FUEL JUST DROPPED ANOTHER 5 CENT IN MHC....I THINK IT IS 1.60.......MAYBE A CENT OR 2 LOWER...I HOPE YOU GUYS AHAVE A BANNER YEAR!

AND A GOOD TOPIC YET A GOOD YET CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC TO ME YOU HAVE HERE...IS THIS ONE WAY WAY WAY BACK ENOUGH FOR YA?

HALF WAY THOUGH THIS FLICK YOU WILL SEE A BFT BITE 23 FEET FROM THE RODTIP

    http://www.wahoonbox.com/videos/wwwwb.wmv

JUST ONCE I WOULD LOVE TO HERE THE JERSEY-DELEWARE-OC FLEET SAY THAT AFTER THEY FIND THE FISH THAT THEY ALL WILL PULL THEIR BAITS BACK INTO THE NORMAL TROLLING FORMATION INSIDE A 100 YARDS AT THE PRECISELY SAME TIME ....AND SEE IF THE BFT WILL STILL BITE...MY MONEY SAYS THEY WILL...NOW IF ONE'S BOAT HAS SOMETHING FUNKY GOING ON WITH IT...THAT IS ANOTHER PROBLEM...

I CATCH TUNA IN ALL CANYONS AT CLOSE RANGE...THE PROOF IS IN THE PUDDIN...I MEAN VIDEOS

A TUNA IS A TUNA IS A TUNA......I AM REQUIRED TO CHECK EACH BAIT EVERY 6-8 MINUTES THOUGHOUT THE ENTIRE DAY AND I WOULD LITERALLY DIE IF I HAD TO CRANK THOSE 300PLUS YARD BAITS IN THAT MANY TIMES TO CHECK FOR GRASS AND WASH OUTS

BUT I DO HAVE A BRIDGE MASTER TO WORK FOR WHO NEVER SITS IN HIS SEAT AND FOR THIS I AM HAPPY TO WORK FOR HIM...HELL THERE IS NO LADDER BACK ON THE HELMCHAIR AT HIS OWN CHOSING WHCIH OFFERS EASY MOBILITY ON THE BRIDGE

....HE WORKS HIS TEASERS AND BRIDGEPOLE PERFECT....AND MANY TIMES HE HAS THE LONG RIGGER POLES ON THE BRIDGE...THATS 3 POLES - 2 TEASERS...

WE CREATE A 8-12 POLE SPREAD TIGHT ENOUGH TO ENTICE THE SCHOOL TUNA TO EXERT ENOUGH ENERGY TO ATTACK....THEY, THE SCHOOL, IMO... DO NOT WANT TO SURFACE FOR BAITS SPREAD OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE...

THIS IS HOW WE GET OUR LIMIT SEVERAL TIMES DURING THE COURSE OF A YFT BITE....THE OL' CAROLINA COVER-UP SPREAD.

THIS IS JUST MY WAY AND MY THOUGHTS AND NOT THE ONLY WAY TO FISH

ROCK ON CAVEMAN SPORTFISHING!!! I HOPE THEY CHEW YOUR STERN LETTERS OFF THIS YEAR!

We run spreader bars about 100 yards back on the out riggers for BFT. We get a lot of bites 15-25 yards off the transom though. Had on fish eat it while i was letting it out 15 feet off the transom.

Box- On YFT you and I are on the exact same page. Baits near the boat tight together= multiple bites.

On OC BFT- we are in the same chapter- maybe not the same page. I have had 100 pound class bft eat, pause for it, gasp, the meany greenie machinie behind a turd, I mean bird on the first wave behind the boat, but for everyone one of those, i have had to dump a spool just to get the bite- you know Box, it is that good old southern hospitality. The further south you go the friendlier it gets.

    Mate/student i think
we fish two wwb's when we fish for medium bluefins out of ocmd. we seem to fish ours alot closer then most, like 250, 275 yards back. if we dont get bite we keep letting it out everyonce and a while until we do. we use a 30 pound ball to keep our deep bait down. and usually two spreader bars on the flat and the short rigger and a shot rigger bait on a short rigger.

the wwb's and deep bait out fish the closer bait 5 or 6 to 1.

but it is cool when you get a bite on the short baits

400 yards! Almost a quarter mile?

How do you maneuver? See the bait (weeds, washout, etc)?

I've never run them that far back, nor have I seen anyone else doing it in this area. We would quickly have gridlock and tangled lines if all boats were doing this.

Now you have me wondering if I am missing some bites...

I don't do a whole lot of bluefin trolling, but we had a good day last August going 9 for 12 or so. Every bite was on the flatlines in the wash. And we seemed to outfish the rest of the fleet, most of whom had their spread way out
