Online petition to NMFS! SIGN IT!

    http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/sto...-bluefin-tuna/

Enough of the stupid fighting. Unless you Southern guys want 160 metric tons stolen from the General catogory, Recreational catogory, and the harpoon catagory to cover for last years 160 metric tons of Long liner dead discards I'd sign the above petition FAST.

P.S. I scrolled down through the first 3-5 pages and the south is not well represented in this petition. Come on guys time to put up or shut up!

Wow, only 41 views. I guess only the guys in the Northeast care about Bluefin.

I just signed it,and Im one of them wild eyed southern boys, but I have quite a few buddies in green port, shennicock, all over long island and new bedford from the days quite a few years ago when I worked on a trawler or dragger as my buds up north called them.We all need to stick together on this,so we dont all hang together.Oh yea I forgot Capemay,I was in boot camp there and also fished out of there.Had some good times in Wildwood,I think the name of the hang out was Glorias.Damn those were the days.

I Know This Ain't Gonna Go Over Well But,

"Discard's" mean's thrown back oveboard dead, because they can't sell them. Why not let the guy's atleast sell the fish so they don't go to waste? My point being, then you'll at least have an "accurate" count of how many fish are "actually" being caught. NMFS just pull's some number from God know's where and that's your new quota. These are the same guy's that think they know the number of fish in the ocean at any given time! They are the problem in my eye's, alway's have been alway's will be. If the longliner's are participating in a "legal" fishery, that is taking place in warm water with ocean current's, there will be a by-catch, period. So until the time that said fishery is "illegal" (something I hope doesn't happen) why not let them sell the otherwise "discard's"????? Why is it that "our" commercial fisherman get beat to death, when the rest of the world does like they want. Yes by all mean's, save the fish for everyone else. I am not saying let anyone catch the "last" fish, but how is any of this even remotely fair to the US Commercial guy's? By the way how many 800-1000 pound fish can you Northern guy's eat. You are catching these fish recreationally, right???? I don't see how this is a Southern/Northern thing to begin with. Frank

Frank this has NOTHING to do with North Vs. South, only an observation on my part last Friday that in the 10 or so petition pages at that point there were only a small handful of the southern guys signed up. With the majority being from MA and the Northeast. I am also not disputing Longliners. What is being petitioned here (if you read the petition page) is that NMFS has proposed to take quota away from the Recreational, General, and Harpoon catogory in order to cover up the Longliners dead discards. That is what this petition is about. Taking quota away from 3 user groups in order to cover for one is wrong. If you think thats fair then we definately dissagree.

    TunaMeltdown,

We don't disagree at all. My point is simply the use of "discard's" (which is a totally fabricated number) that NMFS is using to screw ALL involved. I will admit I did not read the "page" you posted, reason being that I have read all of their complete Bull Crap for more than 30 year's now. It all (in my opinion) has nothing to do with stock's or protecting stock's, never has. It has to do with them (NMFS and the other usual suspect's) creating just one more catasrophy on paper, that will ensure that their job's will continue unfetered. I know of no man alive that has more admiration of what the Good Lord created out there, but then again I don't have a "smoke and morror's" job to protect either. No sir, we are certainly on the same page. I am just stinkin' tired of the jerk's pullin the string's on us! Frank
