These are the same guy's that think they know the number of fish in the ocean at any given time! They are the problem in my eye's, alway's have been alway's will be. If the longliner's are participating in a "legal" fishery, that is taking place in warm water with ocean current's, there will be a by-catch, period. So until the time that said fishery is "illegal" (something I hope doesn't happen) why not let them sell the otherwise "discard's"????? Why is it that "our" commercial fisherman get beat to death, when the rest of the world does like they want. Yes by all mean's, save the fish for everyone else. I am not saying let anyone catch the "last" fish, but how is any of this even remotely fair to the US Commercial guy's? By the way how many 800-1000 pound fish can you Northern guy's eat. You are catching these fish recreationally, right???? I don't see how this is a Southern/Northern thing to begin with. Frank
