NJ Old Grounds Flukasaurus fishing

Been getting between 17-24 fish per trip to the Old Grounds, with fish over 5 pounds every trip. This past Sunday we ran out there and the water was a dark green color, loaded up with phytoplankton from the run off of storm water out of the Delaware Bay. Heavier nitrate loads cause a phytoplankon bloom in near offshore waters, just like they can cause a red tide inshore. Fishing had been getting a little tougher due to the volume of boats fishing the area. After power drifting for a couple hours with only a couple keepers, we headed inshore and ended up the day with a dozen fish with two 24 inchers. The water inshore was much cleaner. Most offshore fishing is better in clean water, whether the intended species is tuna, makos, or flukasauruses.

"Fishing had been getting a little tougher due to the volume of boats fishing the area"

What do you expect when your report titles tell the whole world where you're fishing at! One would think charter boats should no better than that!

OG is a big spot -its not like the cat is out of the bag AC Press and all the tackle shops have it as the place to go.

No, but one of his patrons did on another site

Of course the cats out of the bag in the media and tackle shops, spots sell! Unfortunatley, publicizing them turn good spots bad fast! Used to be you had to earn info. and were trusted to be prudent with it. Not so anymore, the fishies don't stand a chance! Remember this when we are faced w/ a 25% cut in our fluke quotas next year! We're looking at the root of the problem right here! Our recreational fisheries have simply become over commercialized! Back to the spot issue, sure the oceans a big place, but it gets real small real fast when everyone is at the same spot. Remember 10% of the bottom holds 90% of the fish, especially when it comes to fluke...It's no longer safe to use a net out there, not w/ all the report chasers hawking

Agreed on the overfishing at a spot. I have been more selective in posting due to the facts you presented above. Didn't see the other post on other site(not sure which one you are referring to.)

Do you fish out of Cape May?
