    Hello Again Kevin.
I have once again attached my previous email for you.I have since been in contact with Freetime Trading, your Australian
distributor and he has admitted to knowing about this problem but refuses to warrant the reel because we purchased
them from an Ebay store. The problem he tells me is in the drag lever washer. The question I have is this. How is it that you
can be supplying reels with an inherent problem?Who is now going to warrant this product.Other companies like Shimano
don't seem to mind providing warranty on there products no matter where they are purchased. It is the first Okuma reel I
have purchased and have been let down by the service and general product overall.I believe that the general fishing public
should be made aware of this problem,I also believe it should not matter where the reels are purchased from as you are
supplying someone in Asia who is selling these on Ebay. The product warranty should apply world wide, unless the products
you are supplying for distribution in Asia are SECONDS.I wish to resolve this issue as soon as possible please.it would be
a shame for it to drag on if it can be fixed as easily as your Australian distributors say.
    Regards

    Hi Kevin,

I have just purchased a TG50WII and am a little concerned with the drag lever operation. I have set the drag to 8kg and I find that any setting below strike causes the lever to fall back to free spool very easily. I believe this would be a major problem when either live baiting or chunking. Any vibration or slight knock causes the lever to go back to the free spool position and in real life operation, this would be catastrophic. In other words, the lever is extremely loose. I have a friend who also recently purchased a TG30II that has the same problem with the level being very loose.

For reels that cost AUD $600 - $700 , this doesn't seem like it should be happening. Both the Penn International and Shimano Tiagra reels, which are not that much more expensive, do not exhibit this problem whatsoever. Does this sound like normal operation or do you think we both have faulty reels? This is the first Okuma reels we have both purchased and would hate to think this is the usual standard of performance.

In a tournament situation this could cost a placing, not to mention the embarrassment of us going out on a limb by supporting a relatively unknown brand like Okuma. We hope this not to be the case. On a side note, both of these reels did not contain a warranty card. Is this the normal procedure or is there another process that is used to register a reel for warranty purposes?

Your help in this matter is much appreciated.

    Regards,

Although nobig fan of Okuma, I may have some input as to their actions. Many reels sold on ebay are seconds, rebuilds, returns, etc. They although being represented as new usually aren't "new" in the true sense of the word. Frequently, they are nothing more than junk. I bought some 50w models afew years ago. All four had different handles and they had two different type reel seats.
The seller appologized, said he mixed returns with his "new" stock, then quickly got me an evenly matched set with warranty cards. Impressed at his honesty, I decided to buy a load more of different sizes to take to a retail fishing show. You might imagine my burn when I sold one of them and the customer asked if he could have one fresh in the box as a lot of people had handled the one I had on display. I handed him a fresh box and he opened it to find a reel half full of back lashed line and missing the handle. I can't imagine what would have happened if he had actually gone home to find that out. I had to pull the entire display down and go the show without selling any...

I got the tg15II gold from ebay. I too have noticed that if you back down on the drag past half way it will fall into freespool. I just bid on a 30 so I hope I don't win it. thanks for the heads up guys

I don't think that buying from ebay sellers is the problem. The problem is that when you buy an okuma, you're buying a piece of crap.
There are a lot of guys that have had okuma's explode, seize, or blow up. Before even catching a fish on the reel, or on the first fish.
Better to spend a little extra on a proven reel that will last, and the company will fix any problems for years.
I have bought many reels on ebay without any problems.

I'm not really bashing ebay. I sell my over runs on there. If I sell second or imperfects though I do announce that right from the get go. So that head with a bubble in the resin or chip on it's lip doesn't get second guessed. Many if not most vendors are great. A couple shifty ones but most great. The reels though I have seen the regular sellers to be moving a lot of seconds or returns or even rebuilts. I agree that OKuma leaves a lot to desire. That set of four good ones I got I had to sling just a year later as I had some severe corrosion issues. Changed the parts and resold before I had any failures. It scares me to think some how they are in bed with Penn at some level now.

While we do other things including authorized resale of wxworx systems; my company http://espre.net/ also manages overstock, idle equipment, plant closure sales, etc. for businesses (not Okuma) and consumers through eBay, live auction, online auction and other marketing and sales channels.

Warranty support on eBay items can be a tricky issue. Many companies only support products sold through their official resellers and many warranties are not transferrable. So even when the item is new but being "remarketed" or "resold", many manufacturers don't support the items. I've spent a lot of time on this issue and as far as I can see, companies primarily do this to try and undermine people selling their products on the grey market...including eBay, and protect their established sales channels. Some companies also do this because of knock-offs primarily out of China. Sadly it's the consumer that get's hit and I think companies would be much better off if they changed how they approach this.

eBay sellers should make buyers aware of the situation if they are advertising the item as new, but warranty will not transfer. If they have been selling quantities of the product for a month, they are aware of this. If they sold something without warning you of it, it would be fair to ask for a refund.

eBay buyers should cover the basics. Only buy from sellers with 97%+ feedback and at least 10 recent feedbacks. Ask the seller about warranty. If it's not covered...that's OK too, just make sure you bid that way.

Gotta love the power of the internet, even though it sounds like Okuma is not responding, your voice is certainly being heard.

The next bite on a jig.
Friends don't let friends by Okuma's. I do like ebay, but only the buy it now option. Baught a 500lb ice machine off there from a guy in Atlanta last week for $700. No problems at all and it worked out because I had to drive through there so I just stopped and picked it up.
